“Well Appointed Room”
Reviewed October 5, 2011

I had a pleasant stay for two days but the major irritant was a slowwww internet connection as compared to similar locations. The water pressure for the shower was also low. I had one supper at the Hell's Backbone Restaurant on site and then I found the Boulder Mesa restaurant which is just a 5 minute walk to the left and around the corner. I had a wonderful ham and cheese omlet for breakfast with lots of cheese and whole pieces of ham.The next morning I had blueberry pancakes which were also good. For supper a rib eye with fresh carrots and broccoli and big baked potato. All of those things were plentiful and reasonable priced.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Normally our Internet service works very well, and our Wi-Fi is free for guests in all of our rooms. We realize, however, that on some occasions our Internet is not as fast as we would prefer. Unfortunately, this problem is beyond our control. Since Boulder is not in a major metropolitan area (one of the nicest things about our location), we do not have many choices for Internet service. The service we do have is the best that is available in this area. Guests are always welcome to use the free hardwired guest computer in our office. We would like to apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with the Internet while staying with us.
We would also like to apologize for the low water pressure in the shower. We have actually never heard this comment before, so we are checking into what may have caused it.
We are glad you enjoyed the award winning restaurant on our grounds, "Hell's Backbone Grill." It has been named by Salt Lake Magazine as "Best Restaurant in Southern Utah" for the last five years, and has also been recommended by other publications such as Bon Appetit, Gourmet, Sunset, and the Wall Street Journal. We are also glad you enjoyed eating at the nearby Boulder Mesa Restaurant.
Again, thank you for your comments. We are constantly striving to make each guest’s visit as relaxing, comfortable, and enjoyable as possible. It is through feedback that we are able to improve the experience that our guests have while visiting.

Great attention to detail: an at-home feel in the room. For instance, "rags" provided (i.e. old towels) to clean boots or a car. I like that kind of thing. An extra blanket on hand. Screened door opening onto the deck. Lovely.

Room Tip: Get one of the rooms overlooking the bird sanctuary

After a full day of driving through Cedar Breaks, Bryce Canyon then traveling up the scenic highway along the Escalante Staircase stopping in the tiny town of Boulder, Utah the hotel was a very pleasant surprise. They have done a wonderful job of making this hotel fit into it's pristine surroundings. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. Our view from our room was of a lovely meadow where we were able to enjoy a cocktail on our own veranda.
Don't miss the drive down the Burr Trail right beside the hotel. It is absolutely gorgeous and should not be missed....begin your drive and expect to be awed at around mile 7 where it opens into a beautiful red rock Canyon, continue for another 6 miles through the canyon...turn around and drive back. Amazing.
Hell's Backbone Grill on property is a bit pricey but worthy...if you don't wish to spend the big bucks there are two other restaurant/grills nearby that are good as well but the one other grill off the main road for some reason closed before 6PM dinnertime....crazy, but true. There is another restaurant behind that which was fine.

We stayed in Room 20, which is unfortunately not overlooking the bird sanctuary but is still very nice. Well-appointed, good linens and towels, a small fridge, microwave, toaster, and coffee pot. The food available within walking distance is so good, the only thing we used the little kitchen for was to store our left-overs. Lots of storage, windows that open, a porch with chairs, good tv and a dvr player in case it rains. An excellent experience.

Room Tip: Try for the building that overlooks the pond, and get a 2nd floor room for the great views.

We stayed at the Boulder Mountain Lodge for one night in September. The location is beautiful and very peaceful, and our room overlooked their pond. It's an older property, but well loved, clean and taken care of with updated interior and furniture, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. It is also pet friendly which is much appreciated! There is a wonderful restaurant next door that is a bit pricey but serves fresh, local and organic food and lives up to its great reviews. We highly recommend this property and will stay here again the next time we're in the area. :)

We booked our trip here after reading about Hell's Backbone Grill in Sunset magazine. We weren't sure about the place or what Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument had in store for us, but we were prepared to be surprised. The valley is so incredibly beautiful and we really loved the hiking (don't miss Calf Creek Falls) and local drives (the Burr Trail was breathtaking!). We would re-locate here in a heartbeat. We stayed 5 nights and ate at the grill every evening and morning. The food was fabulous and we enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. Just beware not to book the cheapest room. We did and did not enjoy our first night. It was closed-in and stuffy with little light from outdoors. Our view out the window was literally the back wall of the outdoor shower (for the hot tub). It had a smell, like chemicals were needed to remove something from the carpet. Once we requested a room upgrade, we had a fabulous time. It was spacious with great views. The staff are warm and friendly and the grounds are a great place to catch up on reading and fresh air. It will go down as one of our most relaxing and enjoyable trips.

Room Tip: Stick to the higher priced rooms and skip the cheap one.
