“Pure Relaxation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2011

Wow! What a beautiful place. We stayed here for two days and nights, and couldn't have been more pleased. The surrounding area was a great place to explore. The "Burr Trail" is a must for anyone wanting to go off the beaten path without to much effort. The second day after a morning hike we sat on our porch for hours and did nothing but "relax". A great day of mountain winds, thunder showers and great location. You must come and experience this place.

We were two couples and spent two nights on route from Zion to Salt Lake City.

We stayed in two bedrooms sharing an interconnected bathroom. This arrangement worked surprisingly well and also resulted in a room rate of $100 per night whereas rooms with fully en suite bathrooms go for $150. The rooms were spacious and each had its own handwash basin. The beds were very comfortable.

As mentioned in other reviews the setting is beautiful with sufficient privacy in all public areas such as the verandas.

Our meal at the Hell's Backbone Grill was excellent but pricey. Our meal at the next door Burr Trail Grill the next evening was as good but at half the price.

Will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: With friends choose the 2 bedroom shared bathroom

My husband and I stayed at Boulder Mountain Lodge in Boulder, Utah this last week. This was the second time we had stayed but it had been four years since our last trip. Boulder is tiny town in the center of Utah. The Lodge has wonderful views and is very picturesque. Our room, 107, a ground floor room with a balcony that overlooked the 11 acre bird sanctuary. There was a pond with geese and various birds flying around. Their was Adirondack chairs on our patio, which was angled to be semi-private. The room was beautiful and super clean. Lovely decor, and featured Aveda shampoo and soap. Extremely clean with a super comfortable bed that I slept great in. Its a dog friendly property and has a small dog run. Its a big property so its easy to walk your dog around. Staff was very friendly. I cannot think of anything negative to say other than they lost the request for a dog room somehow in the reservation process but it worked out fine since they had me in a ground floor room. All in all, its a great, great place to stay and I will be back!!

Boulder Mtn Lodge is in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument area of South central Utah. Located in a somewhat remote but beautiful farming valley between Bryce Canyon NP and Torrey, Utah on Scenic Hwy 12. Lush green pastures abound with cattle, sheep, horses. Lodge is 3 bldgs. We loved room #18 as it was a ground floor end unit. Nice patio with adirondack chairs for viewing the well cared for lawns, stately cottonwoods and poplars, lovely flower beds, and black angus cattle beyond the rustic fences. While the room itself was not extraordinary, it was well-decorated, huge, nice linens, small 'frig, robes, and very, very clean. The hot tub was exceptional - large enclosed outdoor area with lounge chairs, grilling kitchen and very large beautifully tiled in ground spa, overlooking the lodge's lovely bird sanctuary featuring a large lake and lots of trees.
The "Hell's Backbone Grill", named for a scenic area nearby, is absolutely superb. Not only is the food excellent, the wait staff is extraordinary and there is a pervasive sense of peace and well-being surrounding the intimate dining room with wildflowers on the tables, large picture windows overlooking meticulously cared for flower gardens The two female chefs who created this extraordinary eatery in the high desert, put out lovingly prepared food, organic and mostly grown in their extensive gardens, earning themselves national recognition. Their cookbook "With a Measure of Grace" tells the wonderful story of their happening into this quiet, remote valley community of largely Mormon ranchers and farmers, and how one brought her buddhist philosophy of gentleness and grace to dovetail with the Mormon way of life. Buy the book! It's a wonderful reading experience on how two cultures live in harmony in this tiny oasis, utilizing locally grown beef, lamb, and honey and how the town fathers granted an unheard of liquor license for beer and wine! We would return to the lodge and grill in a heartbeat and stay longer than two days. They have a very good, certified massage therapist on site who will come to the privacy of your room to relieve aching hiking and biking muscles - and she's a terrific waitperson at night! Only breakfast and dinner are served, but the kitchen will make up a box lunch for your daytime adventures. The lodge staff is exceptionally accommodating and friendly. Just everything "feels good" about this place - go out of your way to get there!

Room Tip: End lodge, ground floor king room #18

At the last minute I changed around our reservations, opting to stay here instead of inside Bryce. Smart move. Very peaceful beautiful setting. We loved the scenery of the Grand Staircase Escalante. We only stayed one night, so and continued through Bryce and stayed outside of Zion the next night. It's hard to say if there's much to do around here otherwise. (We had come from Moab).

We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite (one bath). Sort of a funky setup since they are two separate rooms connected by a Jack & Jill bath (each room had its sink). But it was comfortable and very pretty. Our teenage kids enjoyed having their own room for one night. Nice bathrobes for all.

There is free wifi, but the connection wasn't good, so don't count it.

The restaurant (Devil's Backbone Grill) is overrated, in my opinion. Took over 45 minutes to get our dinner once we ordered and food wasn't anything out of the ordinary. The next morning we ate at the Boulder Mesa Restaurant just a block away - much better service and not so pretentious.

Great one night stay. I found this from Budget Travel Magazine and was going to be close so I booked a night. The place is beautiful. If I lived nearby I would see if I could get the place for a wedding or family reunion. I liked the place but found it a bit pricy. I thought the common room should have had a computer with internet access. Art on the wall was beautiful, but too pricy for me.
Please eat at the Hell’s Backbone Grill. This was the true gem! I had no idea such a great place would be in this small town. Reservations are highly recommended. Reviews on the wall were from everybody from Opera to the New York Times.

We stayed in the Anasazi House. I would guess that these rooms are quieter. The Schoolhouse Lodge has a common room in the middle and the hot tub behind the building. I would guess that this can become noisy for some guest.

I stayed here 1 night while hiking with a small group in nearby Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

The facility felt more like a multi-building motel than a lodge to me but that may be because I was in a motel-like room in the Schoolhouse building, albeit a large and well equiped motel room, which was booked by my outfitter.

To be fair, this building did contain a common area with comfortable seating and a fireplace for group gatherings or just someplace to relax away from your room. And their web site does show other room types, some of which look like small apartments.

IIRC, there are 3 building with sleeping rooms. There are 2 more buildings housing the office/gift shop and the Hell's Backbone Grill. Most of the buildings are set around a eleven acre bird sanctuary with pond, which is also a great place to sit outside and relax. The grounds are very large and well maintained, and include many amenities.
