“Interesting Petroglyphs”

These are accessed by traveling down a short dirt trail that is signed. It is can be traversed by passenger cars. There are restroom facilities at the neighboring campsite. Easily seen on a good stretch of the rock face along the road. Interesting petroglyphs many appear to be quite faded and hence are presumably older. We made this stop at the end of the day and were treated to an amazing sunset coming off the trail onto the main road. Be sure and make this easy stop if you enjoy petroglyphs.

A short drive off the main highway takes you to an intriguing look at native rock art. It also gives you a glimpse of man and his desire to communicate. Interspersed in the pre-historic petroglyphs is evidence of 20th century graffiti illustrating that man, regardless of culture, has a desire to "leave his mark". It is fascinating to see and should not be missed!

We stopped here on the way to Monument Valley. It was neat to see the petroglyphs. Many are interesting and it makes you wonder about the people that made them. It is a short stop right off the road but worth stopping if you are in the area.

Exit the highway at Sand Island boat launch. Make the first right and park by the cyclone fence on the hill. This is not marked on the highway, but once you turn in there is a sign. There is a wall of petroglyphs about 70 feet long. It is really neat.
