I heard raves about this place from a co-worker and was really excited to try it. Boy was I disappointed! We drove in from Spring, TX just to try this place and to tour the little village. The food was okay, but nothing special. It is all you can eat, but the portion sizes they serve are really small. I was really looking forward to the cobbler. I almost laughed out loud when they brought me a bowl not much bigger than a thimble! The "gift shop" just has a lot of old, dusty merchandise and the "village" just consists of a bunch of old buildings, no shops that you can actually shop in. My husband and I hit a flea market on the way home and had a better time there. Unless you live really close by, save your time and gas money for something better.

My goal is to make fried chicken for my grandchildren as good as that that we get at the Pickett House! We live about an hour away & go there every chance we get. So far, my
grandchildren say my chicken is getting better but it's that there yet! Could be that the great atmosphere contributes to the wonderful fried chicken and the chicken & dumplins.
We love it - going there has been part of my family for about as long as I can remember!

My husband and I are a mixed couple. We recently went to Pickett House with our daughter in law and 2 grand sons (who are mixed). What a terrible experience from the time we entered until the time we left. The service people were rude and did not provide service unless we asked for something. We were seated in the back near the rest rooms (back of the bus), there were tables up front open. It took more than 10 minutes for our initial order to arrive, the server was less than thrilled to serve us and from then on we saw no one else at our table unless we got up and asked for more food and then we were made to feel like we were asking for gold. If this is normal then shame on them for treating anyone this way, and if not then they need to look at why this happened. This is a restaurant and everyone should be treated the same or posted a sign and say you are not welcome. We were not even asked if our food was okay. I tried to call and email them directly but to no avail, the email came back and I was just put on hold forever. Just be aware if you are a mixed group, you may be treated poorly.

We read articles about the great food at the Picket House but after driving for an hour we were very disappointed. We do not eat beef or pork so we had to bypass on the vegetables. The staff was very friendly and told us about the ham hocks in the vegetables. We thought the famous fried chicken and chicken and dumplings would suffice. The fried chicken was way overcooked and had very little batter more like fried chicken skin especially the breast. They really push the wings and legs. The dumplings were flat and had very little taste. The mashed potatoes were covered with gravy, I think to camouflage the mixture of instant and real potatoes. The peach cobbler was a big disappointment and tasted like canned peaches
We will not return for another visit.
