“Return trip”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

Had stayed last fall and made a return trip to the area for eight days mid April. I was really looking forward to staying at the Wimberley Inn again. Very nice, relaxed vibe runs through the place. Even when it is full, there are plenty of hidden nooks with fountains and privacy for relaxing. Always very well maintained and with very friendly and helpful staff. Thanks to Dan and Denese for a great time (again)!

Room Tip: Rooms are single level and spread out over 4 different buildings. Not a bad one among them.

We’re always happy to see old friends who we’ve met at the inn. It’s a joy when people come back to visit and stay a little longer each time. Our world revolves around our guests and it’s great when they appreciate of what we’ve created here.

When you’re done with the long cold winters of Minnesota or just need a sunshine break you know we’ll welcome you back to your home in the Texas Hills.

Big thanks for taking the time to share your experience here. Hope to see you again soon! D&D

This is by far the most calming environment I've experienced. The owners are exceptional, the grounds and rooms are amazing and the guests are treated with respect. I highly recommend this Inn for a serene experience.

This is a decent place...nothing fancy. It's clean and basic. My two bugaboos is their obsession with their rules and their rudeness. We went down to visit our daughter. This was nearby, and it got good ratings except for the rules. We thought we would try it anyway. It's clean. Well...you can not get internet in the room. We had to step outside to the patio and wait. We did get it finally, but a bit nippy outside and at 11:00 pm, I am dressed for bed. Not my idea of a nice evening. We have internet businesses and need to be on top of things, so this didn't work for us. BUT...the biggest bugaboo was the next morning. Our daughter came up and took us out to breakfast. We arrived back to the room around 10:40 am with plenty of time to check out by 11:00 am. We were all packed just needing to place it in the car. Our daughter parked in the drive, motor running, got of the car to give us a hug good-bye when this man came up and told her in a rather nasty manner to park in #5. We shrugged it off and said that she was leaving now. Well that didn't seem to matter, he was being a bit ugly. Being the only car in the parking lot besides ours, he was very worried that someone may want to come in and park to have access to their room. There was plenty of room for other cars. It was again, 10:40 am. Access to a room is after 3:00 pm. He should have used his brain and thought about the time it was and the entire situation. After telling him 3 times that she was leaving now, he finally left. Never will we go back to that place! Ever! The last memory we have is a man being ugly for absolutely no reason. He needs to be an observer. So...you just lost a customer because of your rules.

Room Tip: Use this place as a last option. They are too hung up on their rules!

It is always surprising when guests complain about “the rules”. All successful businesses have rules in order to create a basic structure for functioning. Most rules reiterate common sense and common courtesy.

In our case we have only a few “rules”:
1. Be considerate of other guests and staff
2. Respect the natural resources of the property (including water, plant life, and septic system)
3. Do not damage or trash the property
4. Park in assigned spaces
5. Do not block driveways

How hard is that?

Most of the time we don’t even have to state “the rules” because it is obvious. When we do have to say something, it is because the guests or their visitors are not using common sense or common courtesy.

In this case the guest’s daughter (who was not staying at the inn) pulled into the parking lot, got out of the car, opened the hood and had a conversation with her parents about her car. The problem was she was right in the middle of the driveway! My husband asked if she was having trouble with her car, and when she said no he asked her to pull into a parking space instead of blocking the driveway (see rule #5). Despite what these people thought there were other guests staying at the inn that day (see rule #1). The parents who were our guests got angry with my husband and started shouting at him (again, see rule #1). REALLY!?!

Now they go online and complain about us. Seriously?!?

As you can imagine folks like this make it difficult to keep a smile on our faces and welcome people to our business/home. Yet, we have many people staying with us who appreciate our efforts and they are the ones who make it worthwhile. Resiliency is essential if you choose to be an innkeeper so we just keep on keepin’ on through it all.

My husband and I stayed here for five nights. Denese suggested we look at the room we'd booked online and then look at one of the larger rooms since we were staying so long. We decided it was definitely worth upgrading as the larger room had a divan, windows that looked out onto the woods and a larger bathroom. The weekend breakfast was very good and, despite no vacancies, it was very quiet. We'd definitely stay here again when visiting Wimberley. - Lori R.

Room Tip: Choose the deluxe room for a good view and nicer setting.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and found it very clean, quiet and located in a delightful woodsy setting. Breakfast was included, making it a good value also. Our individual room did not have WI FI but it was available in most of the common areas, and the cable TV in our room had more channels that you find in the big chain hotels. We had no problems whatsoever and appreciated that the innkeeper went out of her way to find us directions to our cousin's rehearsal dinner after we got lost and called her for help. Speaking of the innkeeper, the homemade organic, banana nut muffins she serves at breakfast are to die for!

My wife and I have just lost a loved one in our family, and needed to get out of our house in Austin for a weekend. The Wimberley Inn was suggested by others, and we stayed there for the first time. Dan and Denese, the Inn keepers were great! They totally got it. Their caring and compassion went way beyond our expectations. The Inn backs up to an overlook of a totally wild green space. It was most calming. We liked the walking paths, and drove over cool gravel rather than hot asphalt. To take our minds away from our grief, we got into a fabulous conversation with Dan and Denese about music in Austin, like Mundi. My wife and I came away with new friends and look forward to a return visit, real soon.

Thank you for your warm and friendly review! Meeting kind and wonderful people like you is the reason we decided to get into this business. We have served people in many ways through the course of our lifetimes. My husband has worked with people in the special needs community and I have been a real estate agent/broker and technical instructor in our past careers.

Wimberley is a special place to get away to and it brings great people to our doorstep. Many people come to celebrate happy occasions like weddings. And some folks come here to find peace and healing after a loss in their lives. We are happy to provide a friendly and comforting environment for all.

We’ve been fortunate to make a few good friends over the past 8 years. It’s a special treat when we can connect with folks like you. We look forward to your return and an enduring friendship! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience here.

Booked on line w/ friends. AFTER they charged our credit cards they brought out the "information sheet" which informed us about the poor plumbing and how we should be careful about how we use the toilet. (This info. is conveniently NOT on their web site.) Oh! But the room is equipped w its very own plunger in case we needed to solve any back up. (SERIOUSLY?) Killed a couple of spiders in the bathroom. Primitive at best.

To this guest: We are sorry that your experience at our inn was so deeply disturbing. Perhaps a trip to the country was not your best choice?

For the benefit of future guests, we found this review to be inaccurate and quite offensive and we would like to set the record straight.

Like most homes and businesses in Wimberley, we are on an individual septic system. It is inspected and serviced regularly and is fully functional as is required by the stringent health standards set by the county and city. If it wasn’t we would not be able to keep our business open.

As anyone who has lived with a septic system is aware when you flush something down the system that doesn’t belong, you’ll know quickly. We monitor the system daily to make sure that it works correctly. However, sometimes a guest will put things in the commode that should not be flushed and it may back up in the middle of the night. We provide tools in the rooms to fix the problem immediately so that it doesn’t become a larger emergency.

Life in the country brings you in touch with natural things. Our property is very clean and well maintained. The beds are comfortable with memory foam pads. The carpeting is fresh looking and there are ceramic tile floors in the bathrooms of the deluxe rooms where this guest stayed. We are diligent about making sure everything is fully functional. Not exactly “primitive”!

Since we are in an environmentally sensitive area we minimize the use of toxic chemicals for cleaning and pest eradication. We have recently had service on the property for pest control, using natural pesticides. Over the past few weeks many guests have stayed in the same room as this guest including families with small children. No one else has complained about spiders.

Again, we are sorry that this guest had such a negative experience and felt compelled to review us so harshly. Perhaps the next getaway with friends should be to a hotel in the city, keeping in mind that one can find fault even in the best hotels around the world.
