This place is close to the house and has a good roped in swimming area for the grandkids. There are also picnic tables nearby and a shade tree under which to sit a lawn chair.

We take our camper here all summer and LOVE it! Only draw back is you can't enter via vehicle after 10pm so you have to make sure you have everything you need! Friendly staff and very flexible about spots!

Located off of FM 1713 north of Whitney, Texasthis Corps of Engineers park has just about everything you could want: RV camping, tent camping, or screened enclosures, boat ramp, hiking trails, and most of all --- peace and quiet.

We camp a lot. And, we have met our share of camp hosts who act like they own the place. At McCown Valley - they act like you are their special guests. Easy going..recommended the best spots - didn't care if we switched sites - didn;t come around snooping on us - like at Airport Park (by far the best, most beautiful park with water access everywhere) but hard-nosed hosts.

The park has a lot of trees - but those are mostly the sites away from the water. Most water view sites are treeless except for the higher numbers. We picked 42...but the drive was like a hill - impossible to level out with a 30 fit trailer. We went one closer to the water - site 41 - which took some leveling effort - but had a clear view to the water and had on tiny tree. We had a wide open view of every star in the sky.

The water in Lake Whitney is so low...it takes a while to walk to the water. There has to be 50-100 feet of exposed sand where water used to be. That is what made it so great for walking our dog and letting him run (few people around).

Great kids gym set - made into a castle.

Only down side of site 41...awkward placement of fire ring. On a slope (couldn't place chairs level and felt like we might stumble into the fire). The ring was also a foot away from the curb around the site.

Would definitely go back. Bet it's gorgeous in the spring.
