Our family recently spent three nights at the resort with 11 other family members. Our goal was to escape from our everyday lives & just hang out together. We really enjoyed our time at Arrowhead. The property is well kept, the management was very friendly & helpful. They don't let people on property who are not registered guests, which makes for very little vehicle traffic. And if you fail to stop at the office for a parking pass, they will track you down!

We really enjoyed the picnic tables being right by the cabin & the grill. The peacocks were amazingly beautiful to watch. The cabins were clean. The resort is not huge, which is probably the best part. We enjoyed swimming, paying basketball, volleyball & the guys found a golf course near by, with some really great rates.

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend here last weekend. It was so relaxing, quiet, and lovely to wake up to a serene lake view. Melinda and Gary are wonderful hosts, and they were there to help us for anything we needed.

Here are pictures of our stay!

This is a decent resort. A great view from Cabin 1 through 4. Those who enjoy relaxing and having nice scenery will approve of this resort. There is not much else besides fishing. The animals are a nice feature but noisy from early morning to late evening. The pool is only good where there is natural shade as in early morning or late evening. It seems the owners are barely holding onto this resort Check by the windows underneath the bed to understand cleanliness-lots of dead bugs. The restaurant on this property, Mel's, closed a year ago. The beach is dirty and unkept. The owners definitely need to further invest or find an investor. This resort could be really nice. It is only average now.

There are many inaccuracies in this review.
The reviewer’s attitude about our place may have been colored by the fact that the couple appeared to have been fighting during their stay. We witnessed them shouting at one another and even giving a one-fingered salute at one point. Their toddler was a handful and perhaps the trip to the lake with him was more than enough to stretch their nerves.
I am very concerned about the false statements in the review. The biggest problem is the statement that the “beach is dirty and unkept.” We do not have a beach. The resort property is adjacent to Corps of Engineer property. The Corps land is a typical Texas lakeshore: part sand, part mud, somewhat brushy. The Corps has extremely strict regulations regarding what can and cannot be done at the shore. We are not allowed to alter their property in any way. In this particular case the reviewer was here following two storms that brought 10” rains that caused a line of twigs and small debris to wash up on the lake shore.
My second concern is about the false impression the reviewer gives regarding the condition of the resort financially. I don’t recall giving the reviewer access to our books, nor did they provide any details in the review about what exactly led to their conclusion other than some bugs in a window. It’s a lake. It’s in the country. They had the windows and the door open.
We are not in any way “barely holding on.” Nor do we need “further investment.” During our 17 years here we have re-invested more than $3 million dollars directly into property improvements. The list includes landscaping, handmade quilts, wall art, entry rugs, picnic tables, outdoor patio furniture, hardwood dining tables, BBQ grills, satellite TV in premium cabins, combination heat/cool units for all cabins, fun new Treehouse cabins designed for families with children, flat-panel televisions in many rooms, digital TV upgrades in ALL cabins, a horse barn, a work shop for welding and furniture building. Then there are the thousands of dollars we spend every year on things like paint, flooring, roofing, replacement of water heaters, microwaves, mattresses, linens, and furniture. Again, the tone implies that we are on the verge of closing. That is entirely false. We are financially sound and plan to keep operating and maintaining the resort for many years to come.
We closed our very successful restaurant because it was TOO successful. As with the resort, we operated it in a “hands-on” fashion. We chose last September to retire from the restaurant business and focus more attention on our guests. The restaurant served primarily locals and weekend lake house owners. By converting the former dining room to the Arrowhead Greatroom we can now offer our resort guests a place for family reunions, weddings, and meetings, all featuring our fantastic view of the lake. We added a comfortable couch, a flat panel TV, and family style seating. This was all done to satisfy demand from guests staying at the resort. A gathering facility was much higher on their list of desires than restaurant filled with locals. While the reviewer’s statement is accurate, in the context of the “barely hanging on” statement, it has a negative connotation as if it is an indication that we are closing the resort. This is false and misleading.
The reviewer also stated that there’s not much to do here except fishing. On any given weekend we usually only have one or two guests who fish. People come here to hike the shore, birdwatch, cook out, swim in the pool or the lake, play games like volleyball, basketball, shuffleboard, and horseshoes. They bring boats for water sports and kayaks and rafts for floating on the lake. They rent our pontoon boats for sight-seeing from the water. Our guests also spend time enjoying all that the area has to offer like the wonderful zoo in Waco or the fascinating history in Clifton or the winery in Meridian. The couple in #8 this weekend enjoyed a visit to Homestead Heritage near Gholson, followed by a drive to West to buy kolaches.
Their comment about the noisy animals refers to our peacocks which are a bit noisy during mating season, but are quiet most of the year.
I am not sure what the reviewer means about shade at the pool. The covered deck at the pool provides shade at all times of the day. People rarely come to a pool seeking shade while in the water. I’m not sure the last time I saw a covered outdoor swimming pool.
My goal is not to be argumentative regarding the review; everyone is entitled to their opinion, but much of the review is simply not accurate. Interestingly enough, the people in adjacent cabins on the same weekend had the exact opposite opinions from this reviewer. One couple stated that our website and the online reviews did not do justice to the actual beauty of the resort. Another couple loved the sunshine at the pool so much that they rarely left.

The point is that when we travel we all have expectations. This reviewer’s obviously were not in line with what we offer. I noticed that of their seven other reviews, six were for chain hotels. We are not a chain hotel. We work very hard on our website to make sure people know what they are renting. We are NOT the Marriott. We don’t try to be. We are a small lakeside (not beachside) cabin resort, somewhat rustic in nature, and designed to allow people to take a few days out of their ordinary lives to enjoy nature and the beauty of Lake Whitney and the surrounding area.

When we heard from this guest after the review was posted he said his family “enjoyed the cabins,” they “laughed at” the peacocks, and only saw bugs in the windows “when checking out.”

Everything about this Resort is great! We will return in the spring to enjoy the outdoor activities. Our cabin was so clean and tidy cute and cozy. Staff was very friendly and helpful, the grounds were very well kept. Love the free roaming peacocks, so beautiful. Pool area was closed for the season, but looked very clean. Nuf said can't wait till spring.

A gem between Ft Worth & Waco. Property amazingly peaceful & well maintained. Owners hard working hands-on pride. They strictly adhere to making sure stay is safe & comfortable for all. guests tell me they were surprised to find it & return now year after year. Beautiful view of the lake. There is a short hike to lake edge- I preferred enjoying the view & swimming in the pool. Not a luxury resort - but def steps above most cabins. I gave rooms 4 star only because no rail to hold onto climb few steps. And pool wonderful except really big steps with nothing to hold on to. Friday night buffet wonderful - during the week bring your own food. The peacocks delightful.

My family and I have chosen Arrowhead for two family reunions and two single family stays and we are never disappointed. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The staff has gone out of the way to accommodate our request, even when it came to slightly bending their policy! If your looking to stay at an extremely well functioning property that's quiet where security and privacy are a priority with the staff, this is it! One of our favorite parts of our stay is enjoying watching the peacocks when the males are competing for "attention"! The cabins are clean with a great view, and the sunset can't be beat anywhere on the lake! I've got to mention Mel's Steakhouse is my personal favorite part of our stay! The food and atmosphere are a perfect fit for this resort! If you order in advance, Mel will top your visit off with a custom tray of cinnamon rolls that knock it out of the park! Wonderful people that really care about making your stay wonderful is what this resort is about.
