I found this restaurant after much searching and reading. I was looking for a less expensive Thai restaurant to take someone from Bhutan to eat. I have been to Thailand and have eaten a LOT of Thai food. I am always searching for a good restaurant, since most are too Americanized. Well, this place did not disappoint.
The outside was pretty sketchy and I would have never known it was a Thai restaurant if I had not found it originally. The inside was typical of the Thai places I like, sort of small and basic and not much to rave about. Everyone was thrilled when I greeted them in Thai (I know two Thai words, "Hello" and "Thank-you"). It seemed like a family of husband, wife and son. Mom was dressed to the nines and well, looked a little...over-dressed? She didn't speak a word of English, but she was so sweet and helpful.
I ordered the Penang curry with tofu, my favorite and benchmark dish, and my companion ordered something with fish and red curry sauce. Sorry, I don't know the name, but she originally ordered red curry with fish and the waiter suggested this dish instead.
My Penang curry was awesome. Complex, authentic tasting and just the right amount of spicyness to not overwhelm the other flavors. My only complaint is that I ran out of rice and had to take the rest home. Oh well, keeps me from overeating, I guess. My friend sort of picked at her meal. She said it was good, so I'm not sure if she was just being polite or if she just doesn't eat much. Anyway, she gave me the rest to take home.
So, I had both left-overs the next day and OMG, I think they were even better after a day of marinating. I savoured every bite and was so sad to be finished.
I just wish that this place was closer to where I live. I'm not sure if I can convince my husband to drive this far, but it is well worth the drive to me. I'm craving it right now.
Check it out. If you love Thai food and want the real deal, this place is for you.
