Tucked away in the corner of a city park are 3 acres (or so) operated by Weslaco parks & rec. as a natural history educational center with a good trail system. Birds here are easy to view along the trails or at feeders.
New (still under construction in Jan. 201) are a photography blind and a beautiful nature center. Buff-bellied Hummingbirds are regularly seen.
Red-crowned Parrots may be seen flying to roost in the late afternoon-early evening. Watch and listen for them in the parking lot in the park.
The only drawback to the site is its pocket size. it's always worth a visit. Note the schedule:
Saturday: 8am-5pm Sunday: 1pm-5pm
Closed all Major Holidays.
