Oma's is a REAL GEM. Been there forever--and nothing has changed. Great atmosphere. Same employees for decades. It's like walking into a time machine from 1950. The menu is pretty limited to almost exclusively burgers, chips, and drink, but that's the beauty of this place. They do one thing, and they do it well. The burgers are made from very high quality beef on a grill that's well over 35 years old, by a woman that's been making them for about the same amount of time. The patty is pretty small, so be sure to order a double. They have fountain drinks, but also a very WIDE assortment of bottled drinks. I'd suggest you get a bottled soft drink to go with your burger. It's a classic combination. They also have a very wide variety of chips, which go perfectly with your burger.
The owner, Doug Curry, is there most Saturdays, and he greets EVERYONE that walks in. He's never met a stranger. It's nice to go to a restaurant for the first time and be genuinely welcomed. And if you're a "regular" he's thrilled to see you too. An extra benefit is there's a great counter with old-fashioned stools to sit on, so if you happen to go to Oma's by yourself you can sit at the counter and chat with the employees so it's still a great social experience. Very friendly atmosphere, there are no "outsiders" at Oma's.
Recently they added a large covered outdoor seating area with picnic tables and a big screen TV. Very nice atmosphere to chat with friends and watch a game, while eating the best burger in Waxahachie. There's also a large outdoor heater so the temperature is comfortable even if it's a bit chilly outside.
I give Oma's a big thumb's up. Oma's burgers are great...but it's not just an outstanding burger, it's the whole Oma Experience. Treat yourself.
