“are the animals healthy?”
Review of Cameron Park Zoo

Cameron Park Zoo
Ranked #1 of 74 things to do in Waco

many of the habitats in the zoo only had one animal (for animals that are social and really need a friend to be happy) and some of the animals looked malnourished!

Like the nearby river that flows through downtown, the Cameron Park Zoo is the kind of amazing asset you don't expect to find in a city of Waco's size. The zoo is set in hilly, tree-covered terrain and has wide, well-kept walkways that meander through playgrounds and animal habitats. It's an ideal zoo for kids because of the many places to stop and play, and it lets visitors view animals in natural-looking settings rather than in cages. Nice to see varied but compatible species wandering around together as they would in the wild. This should be at the top of any list of family-oriented activities in central Texas, but it's great for anyone who enjoys zoos, animals or nature, not just for those seeking a kid-friendly outing.

very well kept, the exibits were really nice, you get the feeling that if the animals can't be in nature, this place is a pretty good place to be.

This is one of our favorite ways to spend time together as a family. This zoo is less crowded than the San Antonio Zoo, yet the experience with the animals and different exhibits seems more up close and personal. There is a wonderful playground in the middle of the park which encourages interactive play. There are musical elements, a little stage made from a tree stump, complete with log benches. A huge covered area, bathrooms and a regular playground equipment. Provides a great place to rest up and have some fun. Be sure to check out the buffalo display where you can sit inside a tepee. The orangutans exhibit is one of our favorites! Interactive Gongs and musical xylophones...there is so much to see and do there. We are totally engrossed and entertained the whole time every visit.

I take my grand-daughter here at least once each year. She doesn't live near Waco, but if she did we would come more often. She loves to buy food and then feed the fish and turtles. We like the aquarium, it's a cool spot on a hot day! Her favorite thing is the slide that goes through the otter pool. She could do that slide over and over all day, if I'd let her. The landscaping is beautiful, and the facilities are kept very clean. It takes about 2 hours to see everything, and by then we are ready to go somewhere cool to eat lunch. Tip: we came here once on a winter day, and there were very few other people, so we had the playgrounds mostly to ourselves.
