“A unique and rare site!”

Well designed building houses the original excavation site of the Columbian mammoth remains and other fossilized animals and plants. Central Texas is very fortunate to have this truly rare and fascinating site!

“Worth a stop when in the area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

Under development and needs funding to make improvements. But, for those interested in these types of excavations, archaeology, or are self-educating children, The folks working the site are knowledgeable and eager to answer questions. Primitive, like most active digs, but worth the $7.00

“Mammoth Site”

A great educational experience for kids and adults. The proprietors are quite knowledgeable a give a great presentation. It isn't quite finished because of the need for more funding, but it is still worth seeing.

“Don't go out of your way ...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2013

There is nothing there. I saw the site when it was under a tent before they made it a public attraction. It was interesting and you could walk down a wooden trail alongside the excavation. That was a cool experience. Now it is rather sterile, and, in my opinion, boring. Not really much to see. At $7 it is cheap enough to walk into the building and look but don't expect much because there isn't much there.

“Interesting - wish there was more”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2013

We stopped here as a break in our drive from San Antonio to Denton, and were pleasantly surprised. It was a nice and informative site. The remains are in situ and are housed in a climate controlled area. The guide was knowledgeable and ready to answer questions. There were 4-5 specimens, many completely uncovered. I wish more of the remains were present, but quite a few are housed at Baylor university. They do hope to find more, and it would have been interesting to see them working on the site. Makes you wonder what else is under the ground. The fee was minimal and well worth it.
