“Almost 5 stars”
Reviewed April 23, 2012

The desk clerk was very pleasant and hospitable. Our room was very clean and attractive. The breakfast the next morning was the best we have ever had at a Fairfield Inn — and we have stayed in Fairfields from Texas to California. Very varied menu, with hot eggs and meats and plenty of fresh fruit.

Two downers: 1) the telephone did not work, which we did not learn until the next morning, so I can't report on repair service. And 2) the hotel has only one entrance; it's on the the east side of busy divided Hwy. 77. That's OK if you're approaching from the west, south, or east. But from the north, you must pass the hotel, go under the East-West freeway, turn left (East) and go to the next crossover, make the two left turns to go west again, get to the traffic light at Hwy. 77, turn right and then right again into the parking lot. Phew! When leaving, it's easy to exit and go north. But the whole scenario reverses if you're going in another direction. Too bad, because it was otherwise one of the better Fairfield Inn experiences.

When we arrived we were greeted by Heather, she is such a great lady. Always willing to help us in any way she could. She always had a smile when we come in or left the hotel. In fact all the staff from the desk staff to the wonderful housekeeping ladies were wonderful. Suzette in housekeeping was especially nice to us during our stay. The room was very clean and it had the usual Fairfield decor. The beds were very comfortable and not as high as most hotels. It was eaiser to get in and out, with them being lowered. There are lots of restaurants nearby, so you will have good choices. The breakfast was good, we loved the crispy bacon along with a wide range of breakfast goodies. All in all our stay at Fairfield was good.

Our room faced an old closed Sonic Restaurant along with a concrete irrigation canal with a little water in it. Not a very attractive view. We also felt the hotel was way over priced, But you really don't have much choice in this town. There are not that many hotels and lots of business travelers. We would stay here again, I would check out other hotels in the area though.

My husband had a business trip to Victoria Texas, so I accompanied him for a two night stay. First of all, this Fairfield Inn has a great breakfast - crisp bacon, scrambled eggs, "make your own Belgium waffles" along with the standard free breakfast fare. The waffle is much better than expected and the variety of food made breakfast a pleasure.
Secondly they offer FREE wireless service in all guest rooms! They also have a clean indoor pool and hot tub.
Finally, the staff is very customer oriented. They know how to treat people right. They called the room within a half hour of check in to ensure we were happy and got online all right, and the front desk clerk offered to suggest restaurants in the area. A day later I overheard another customer ask how to get to a certain restaurant; the clerk gave them coupons for a discount at the restaurant and also suggested their best entrees to try (in her opinion).
Why didn't I rate the hotel "excellent"? Only because there is no exercise facility onsite. They do provide a free temporary membership at a gym about four miles away, but I did not have the car to drive there during the day. Instead I walked to the Victoria Mall from the hotel and became a "mall walker" for two days. I guess that's another point in the hotel's favor - they are walking distance to a decent sized mall (with a food court & Mexican restaurant) and Red Lobster Restaurant.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor and it was quiet. In general, never get a room near the elevator because...

Although this motel is fine, the value is awful. A travel guide recommended staying in Victoria, because it was convenient to the Texas historical sites in that area. Clearly the travel guide didn't update that section, because Victoria is now a very busy town with oil business. On a Thursday afternoon in January, almost every room in town was booked from the Motel 6 up to high-end hotels. There were no conference or sports event. The hotel clerk told me that the oil boom in this area of Texas has completely swamped the Victoria hotels over the last couple years. Thus, we had to pay a very high rate for a very normal room in what should be a small-town price.

If you have to stay in Victoria, this hotel would do fine. But when I was trying to get a room in the Hampton Inn across the highway, the lobby and clientele seemed much nicer for the same price. They were sold out.

Room Tip: We asked for a room that didn't face the highway, so the clerk gave us a view of the "ravin...

Hotel is nice. It is near a major intersection which is good for travelers. You can't hear any noise. Great pool for kids!

I arrived in Victoria thinking it would be easy to find a reasonably priced room in this tiny town. Whoops! I went from place to place, finding them either out of rooms or charging $150 for a standard room. I gave up at the desk of the Fairfield Inn and handed over my credit card. What I got was a fine room, a good night's sleep, and a bill that made me wince. I was told there is a lot of construction in the area, bringing transient workers to town. Whatever the reason, I suggest the pass-through traveler make plans to not stop in Victoria.

We spent one night here while visting family. It was a comfortable room, a good complimentary breakfast, and a nice staff. When the computer in the lobby wouldn't print my boarding pass the woman at the front desk let me use her computer! It's in a busy area next to the Victoria Mall, restaurants and a large grocery store(HEB), so we found it to be ideal!

Room Tip: we had a room in the front that looked out on the parking lot ---it was quiet!
