There's alot of options at Tyler. The kids (6, 4 and 2) enjoyed runing up and down the trails and playing on the playground. There's tent camping seperate from trailer camping or combination or goup camping options. We had plenty of trails that the small kids could finish and water was like glass. Fish were jumping and our oldestvcaught a small fish. Obviously less folage in winter, but the drought took its toll on the big pines. The staff was great and was constantly cleaning park, bathrooms were spotless. The showers had HOT (scalding if desired) water in 30 degree weather. I would recommend bring plastic bag to keep closes in while in shower. They have low volume spray heads and room as a small wall to block shower stall from changing, but thing still can get wet. Best camping we've done yet. Kids loved it. Can't wait to go back in the late spring for swimming.

Tyler State Park, in addition to being a stellar camping, hiking, mountain biking park also has a wonderful lake. People fish, canoe and swim in this lake which has a sand play area and a big floating dock that you can sun on, jump from, etc. Lots of fun. My husband and I use the lake for our open water swimming. From the sandy beach swim area to the pier directly across the lake is about 400 meters. The water is clean and fairly clear. There are no motorized boats allowed on the lake which is a huge plus for open water swimming. The park has a large changing and showering facility at the lake.

There is no life guard so you will be swimming at your own risk.

The park was well kept. The campsites however where kind of small. There was a small lake where you could fish or canoe.

The mountain biking trails here are very rewarding. A rider can find plenty of technical sections on the trail or for the least experienced there is EZ trail or Loop A trail. The park has a small lake that is absolutely beautiful at all seasons of the year. Canoe and paddleboat rentals are also available here.

Was there Nov. 20-23. Excellent fall foliage. Lots of shady trees. Great trails for both hiking and mountain biking. Stayed in the tent, water only, section. Sites are not close together which is a real blessing. However, there is only one restroom for this section of the park (41 sites) and for the eastern half of this section its up a long flight of stairs. Would have given the park 5 stars except: you hear noise from nearby highways all day and all night though it's not super loud; none of the camp sites are right on the lake, the closest are at least 40 yards away; the gnats, when out, are huge and super aggressive. Also, I was here on a day only excursion during warm weather and it was Very crowded. But, like I said, this is the prettiest state park in Texas.
