“Lots of roses!”
Review of Tyler Rose Garden

We stopped by on a Thursday morning the week after the annual rose festival (usually mid-October) and many of the roses were still in bloom. We had the place to ourselves, other than the workers there tending the flowers. Very well maintained. Acres and acres of roses in nearly every color imaginable. The Rose Garden is a city park and there is no cost to walk through the gardens. You can get to the gardens without going through the museum or through the building at all if you want - just look for the open gates to the right of the building (away from the theater and the road). I enjoyed the fountains and ponds as well.

Our visit was a Monday afternoon after hearing locals tell us to visit. This was right after the Rose Festival, so the lobby smelled exquisite! The self guided tour of the museum and to roam in the acres of roses in the garden was $3.50 for adults and $2 for children over three. There is so much to learn about the beginning of the festival and the pride this city has in it. Beautiful gowns are on display from members of the court and memorabilia spanning 80 years. The thousands of roses in the garden are fun to walk through to read the flower names and get an occasional whiff of fragrance. This place is a good stop for anyone new or just visiting Tyler to understand their affection with the rose.

Wonderful selection of roses plus a camelia garden, too. Water features as well. Adjacent to the site is the convention center, theater, and museum. Peaceful place to stop and smell the roses!

Yes, there are a lot of beautiful roses. The smell of them all is a treat. But the garden is laid out in a peculiar fashion. You can miss whole sections of flowers if you don't pay attention. The beds are not consistently labeled so you frequently don't know what you are looking at. Don't get me wrong, it was a beautiful visit, but I'm glad I was already in Tyler because I'm not sure it would have been worth going if it meant a long trip.
