This place is great if you want to get away from the city rush! The pool is nice and cool, and the town is small but peaceful. The pool has a great view of the mountains. Only thing, don't come when its a holiday, it will take you forever to get in. Great place to visit!

Even without amenities,(except good bathrooms) place still rates Excellent. Bring all eats and drinks, definately a snorkel. We arrived at 8:30 and got right in . It was still a little cool to swim but the children and us were more than entertained walking through the park, feeding the fish and turtles in the canals. We ended up staying about 6 hours, picnicking, snorkeling, watching kids jump off diving boards, etc. Great family place. Parts of pool are very deep, clear waters with different fish and turtles and there are shallow parts for kids. there was a looong line of cars waiting to get in when we left. Go early!

The campsites were plentiful but a few had zero shade. Not full hookups. No Internet for AT&T. The view was wonderful. The pool was relaxing. Ideal for snorkeling and scuba It was super crowded and the rangers limit access based on capacity. Was glad we passed up the car line with our permit. By the end of the day the bathrooms are barely usable Come prepared as the closest Walmart is in Pecos 45 miles away. The convenience store is 2 miles but has a limited selection. No fireworks on the fourth but some on the fifth at Ft Davis. Good family experience if you can take the heat.

We arrived to the Balmorhea Pool and had to wait for about 2 hours. We arrived around 3pm and didn't get to go in about 5pm. This was due to their limited parking. But if you plan to visit, just make sure you arrive way early as we were told they actually closed the gate around 10am. It costs about $7 per person at the entrance. When the park is full, they only allow cars to enter once a car leaves the park. When we arrived inside the pool area, it was not crowded at all and we actually found a picnic table. I would recommend you bring along a shaded canopy with some chair in the off chance you cannot get a picnic table next to a tree. This was the first time my husband and child got to visit this pool and they want to come back already. The pool area is very clean and you can see the fish clearly. I would also say, bring your snorkeling gear as you have great opportunities to view the fish and even some scuba divers. There are sufficient showering off facilities which are very clean. The park has state park ranger who keep an eye out while maintain the cleanliness of the Pool area.

The pool at Balmorhea is amazingly large!! The park area has shade trees, lots of shelters, picnic areas, a nice size bath house, camping area, and hotel. We stayed at the hotel and enjoyed our nights stay. We met friends there and they enjoyed it as well. We are looking forward to going back when we have more time than just one night.
