“Great family getaway”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

We were looking for a nice family vacation spot that wasn't too far from home.

The good:

1. So many pools to choose from! But we stayed at the large Waterscape, which had a zero depth entry, plus a separate splash pad and toddler pool, Which were great for the baby.
2. Service: very helpful and friendly. We stayed in the junior suites-reasonably priced-and always caught a ride via club car to the pool. Pool waitstaff was also friendly. They were constantly handing out frozen oranges and grapes and cold towels.
3. Activities: so much to choose from for the little ones! However, the s'mores activity was so short and should have been longer since the dive in movie started so late.
4. Good poolside food. Lots of choices.

The bad:

1. Not as clean as I would like. This place was very dated and did not feel so clean, and my crawling baby kept finding mystery items on the hotel floor. Yuck. Saw a few bugs in the dining room too. The pull out bed revealed old clothes and linens.
2. Dining room: average food, poor dinner service (breakfast waitstaff was awesome), and again, cleanliness. If it wasn't so hot, we would have eaten by the pool the entire time.

I know they are building a new building, but families using the junior suites would love new carpet!

Overall, it was a great trip and we will return. This place has a lot to offer. Just keep these tips in mind!

Room Tip: Junior suite: the Birch building was a good central location and not so close to one of the pools, k...

Librarangrrrl,
Thank you for the great feedback regarding your recent stay with us. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the family activities around the pool area and our stellar service. Thank you for sharing your concerns with us, we appreciate the feedback and use it when making decisions regarding improving our services and amenities. As you mentioned we are in the process of adding a new guestroom wing to include 184 new guest rooms. Included in that renovation will be the upgrading of our existing Fairway Pines guest rooms to the same look and feel of the new guest building. At this time, plans for the existing Forest Lake lodges including the Junior Suites is still up in the air. Once again, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We hope to have the pleasure of serving you again soon.

Happy Travels,
Jasmine

I recently stayed at the woodlands through the Texas golf trail concierge. I was there as a base for business appointments in and around the woodlands/Conroe area. I stayed in the condone type units in the dogwood cluster. My king room was spacious, convenient to the conference center, clean, the bed was comfortable and of course the water pressure in Houston is awesome. This is an ok place for leisure travel but its really a conference center. I do recommend staying in conference resorts when they are not full because the service is great.

Chip G,
Thank you for taking time to share your experience with us. We are in fact known for being a top-notch conference center, but we are also a wonderful leisure destination as well with the Forest Oasis Waterscape, golf, spa, tennis and our close proximity to The Woodlands Town Center's shopping and entertainment district. Perhaps on your next visit with us you can experience some of our resort amenities. We appreciate you and look forward to the opportunity to serve you again soon.

The place is beautiful. We stayed at the building BB, the room was spacious and have access to a pool. The hotel also has a big and beautiful water area (the Oasis) with 3 pools, waterfalls, free kids activities, waterslide, free snowcones and smores. At night they have a kids movies at the pool. The food by the pool is good, and is not over priced. Great service. Great place for family with small kids and teenagers. We all have fun

We stayed at The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center June 28 because we had tickets to a concert at the nearby Woodlands music venue and this hotel offered a shuttle service there; that was beyond convenient, instead of driving and finding a parking space and walking a long way to get to the gate, etc. and it gave us an excuse to spend the night out of the city and have some family time.

My complaint is that we hadn't discovered this hotel years ago!

The room was clean and cool, the linens nice and crisp, the TV was fine, the bathroom was clean, the locks worked. Yes, the property is a little old (probably built in the 70s) but it had charm. But that's not what made this a great weekend destination. This is:

The pool area was great for our 8 year old twins and for us, parents who no longer have to be in the water with them. We could sit poolside in the plentiful lounge chairs and keep an eye on the boys in the pool or going down the tube water slides. This is exactly the speed for parents of a certain age group. A hotel pool can't be all things to all people but if you know what you need, then this would work for you. There were plenty of activities that took them out of the pool, all poolside however, so our bag of stuff (towels, sunscreen, etc) was just fine on the loungers as we returned over and over. There were two clowns, two great balloon artists, really fun karaoke by DJ Mikey Mike, snowcones, a craft for little kids, smores. Plenty to do to keep kids thinking they've been to an amazing kid-friendly place. The dive-in movie was a hit too. So how did my husband and I keep busy? Well, we had fun watching the kids have fun and with very little effort. The food and beverage service was quick, good quality, and not higher than what one expects at a hotel. Choices for food were plentiful. We sat and enjoyed the pool and sun and relaxed. We were offered frozen grapes and cold washcloths, we enjoyed being away. This is how you do it when you don't want to spend a lot but you do want to feel like you've been away.

We will return to The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center.

SashaTexas,
Thank you for your kind review. Keeping twin boys occupied is no small feat and we are so glad to have succeeded! Not to mention allowing you and your husband some downtime as well. It sounds like you and your family enjoyed many of our resort's amenities and services. We look forward to having you and your family back soon.

Was expecting something nice. It isn't.

Complaints

1. When we arrived of course my 7 year old son is anxious to hit the pool and I had forgotten a swim suit. Thought of course that wouldn't be a problem, but was. When I called the front desk was informed there wasn't a gift shop and no suggestions or directions to a store were offered.

2. When we returned from that shopping trip and wanted to go to bed discovered there was only one. We booked a suite for four people and apparently we were all expected to sleep in one bed. I had assumed the couch would make out into a bed, but no. I called the front desk thinking a mistake had been made, but no mistake and was offered a rollaway. I decided not to take it and slept on the couch. It was a tough decision between it and the floor, and there were no extra linens in the room.

3. No bathroom door. Not making this up. The one bed has a direct line of site into the shower and toilet with no door not even a curtain. So everyone had to leave the bedroom and bath area for the bathroom to be used.

4. Coffee Maker did not work.

5. Room and Condition. View from the suite may someday include the golf course, but now is a dirt and mud pile next to some brush. Furniture was shabby, cheap to begin with, dirty, and looked like each piece came from a different used motel furniture sale. Room wasn't filthy, but not clean either. I've stayed in many basic budget motels in my time, this may have been the worse.

6. Breakfast. Breakfast was served outsided. The meat was in a chafing dish, but not sure it was lit as the sausage was cooler than the ambient temperature.

Compliments:

1. Pool The pool is a littler more than a basic swimming pool with a couple of slides. The slides are attended and the girls did a fine job of keeping it orderly and safe. My seven year old son loved it and that was the point of staying there in the first place. There were primarily families at the pool. There's a bar right at the pool and there are people taking drink orders and offering snacks.

2. Wait staff. We were taken care of by a young lady named Becca who made us feel like we were the most important people there and on the Love Boat. She went a long way towards redeeming the poor room experience.

We went for forth of July weekend, lots of great activities for the kiddos. The rooms are a little outdated, but they are working on new construction and looks like they will be upgrading alot. Lots of fun activities for the kids like snowcones, Smores, karaoke, dive - in movies, clowns, and more. Pool side service was inconsistent, you'd have one server well informed and great service to not so great service when next shift started. Breakfast buffet was just ok - until the last day when I went to get my food and found a roach on my chair, gross! I was disappointed - I expected better quality.

Mickey489,
Thank you for your candid review regarding your recent stay with us. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed all of our fun activities. I have passed your comment along to our management for the attention they deserve. We strive for above and beyond service with all our guests and I am sorry to hear you were disappointed. While we make every effort to ensure minimal pests with regularly scheduled control, our natural environment makes it difficult to eradicate all pests. We sincerely apologize for your experience and hope you will give us a second chance in the future to exceed your expectations.
