“Not what I expected from a "resort".”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Let me start by saying that we did not pick this hotel on our own. We booked another hotel through Expedia and the day before we flew to Houston we were informed that the other hotel had cancelled our reservation due to overbooking. So at the last minute we had to find another hotel. Expedia suggested The Woodlands Resort. Our original reservation with the hotel was a king suite. We told the resort that we had to have a room with a microwave and refrigerator because we were traveling with our 3 month old. When we arrived the first thing I didn't appreciate was the parking. There is not a lot of parking right near our room. We walked up the stairs (no elevator) to our room. Our room smelled a bit musty and was humid. There was a microwave but no refrigerator. We called and told the front desk that we must have a fridge. They brought one up right away. We then noticed that out tv remote had no batteries, and we couldn't even turn the television on as the power button on the tv itself did not work. They brought us a new remote right away. The large flat screen tv was very nice. We had 2 full size beds. Ugh they were very uncomfortable! But the big pillows were great. They provided a pack n play for our daughter that worked out nicely. There was a couple of comfortable chairs and a nice size table on our very large room. We noticed that our door-wall did not have a screen. The air conditioning would turn on and blast you with cold air if you were sitting across the room from the vent but the rest if the room would remain warm and humid. The shower and bathroom were very nice and very clean. The bath and body works toiletries were nice to have as well. We were in The Woodlands to visit family so we did not get to explore the rest of the resort but it looked very nice. Next time we are in The Woodlands, we will not be staying at the resort.

DanaReimy,
We are sorry to hear of the issues you experienced during your recent stay with us. It sounds like we responded quickly to your requests, but if that is not the case, please let us know. Thank you for letting us know about the screen missing on the sliding glass door, if you could contact us directly and let us know what room so we can fix that issue, we would appreciate it. We hope you enjoyed your time visiting with your family and hope that next time you might be able to enjoy some of our resort amenities like the Forest Oasis Waterscape pool complex, golf or spa. Thank you again for your feedback, we value it immensely.

We stayed a couple of nights during spring break 2013. Very nice resort...clean, comfortable room, heated pool, kids activities. Great band! Kids loved the splash pad, water slides and hot tub -despite the cold weather. Close to retail, movies, dining, entertainment and still tucked away so you feel as though you have gotten away from it all. Nice golf course and practice facilities, great breakfast, very courteous employees. Thanks for a great stay...we will be back!

Room Tip: Like the pines rooms.

Lslegypsy,
Thank you so much for your kind comments! It sounds like you really enjoyed your time with us and got to experience so many of our wonderful amenities. Spring Break weather is always a question mark, so we like to heat that back pool for just that reason. Thank you again for the great review and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

We stayed here right before the school year started and had a fabulous time. We stayed at Fairway Pines which is where all the action happens. We were close to all the pools, activities, live music and much more. The service was excellent from drive up to drive off. Our children loved all the children activities, pools, slides, etc. Our room was steps away from pools and breakfast buffet was delicious. We especially loved the frozen grapes, orange pieces, and cold towels that were brought to us poolside. The extra steps to make us feel welcomed made the trip extra special. We even received a small cookie cake that was delivered to our room upon arrival. Rooms could use some updating but the overall experience was worth it.

I stayed here last night after a school gala (and last year one night after the same event). Both times I stayed in one of the "newer" rooms. The rooms are nice enough and the beds are fairly comfortable. I will have to agree with others in that the walls are incredibly thin!! We could hear the entire conversation about the wedding the couple next to us were going to attend this afternoon and how cold the man thought it was in the room, but his wife was still hot. I didn't enjoy the conversation at 7:00 this morning when I didn't get in until 1 a.m. (and was very quiet about getting into my room). I don't know what you could possibly do to fix this, but it is quite bad! Possibly group rooms with the same group together (I know my group had a number of rooms, yet no one was near me, and it was booked well in advance).
We did stop in the bar for one drink, then they closed it down. I do know that 2 months ago our group requested that the bar stay open until 2 a.m., and were told that with that much notice it would be no problem (last year they closed at 12:30). They ended up closing at 12:30 again. The girl behind the bar makes a wonderful Lemon Drop Martini - but it would've been nice to be able to stick around for a second one (that I wasn't willing to buy and down real quick to make the last call deadline). Service in there was ok, but if there was any other option at all, we wouldn't have stayed. Several people are talking about bringing our own wine next year and just gathering in our rooms or other areas.
We also encountered a very rude guy by the loading dock when we were trying to unload our cars for our event. The guys in valet told us to go to this area, but the guy there wouldn't let us pull up and was quite rude about it.
We will probably have our gala there again next year, but I'm not sure I'll be spending the night again.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the end of a building (newer wings) so that you only have one neighbor.

The new rooms and facilities at the Fairway view rooms and accompaning pool and spa were very nice and spacious. Lobby bar and dinner facilities were comfortable and the food was very good.
The brunch opitons were great and had more options than anyone could ever use.

Golf courses were busy but in good shape. Only negative was the practice tee had matts instead of real grass on the weekends.

price including golf was very reasonable. There are lots of options for things to do and places to eat near by as well.

Room Tip: I have not been in the older rooms in years. I would go for the new rooms and facilities.

I am generous giving it an average. The rooms are dated. I will help to get some fresh features or a coat of paint. Completely not impressive for the value. For the amenities and cost, why would you charge an Internet fee? These days seems completely out of place. Just include that in the price and say is free. Not that I usually have high expectations but room service is just terrible ... And oh god expensive!
I am definitely not coming back here!
