Considering the food on its own merit, it was good. When factoring in the price, the food was average at best. $37.00 for a 6 ounce filet that was a little tuff. $10.50 for a Vodka Rocks! Wow! The service was very good considering we had a party of 10. There are other restaurants nearby that have superior food at more reasonable prices. Kirby's Steakhouse is one that comes to mind.

We had Saturday night dinner reservations for 4 at 6:30 but had to call in to notify the restaurant that we were running a little late. But it was no problem at all--we were seated immediately upon arrival 30 minutes later than our original reservation time. Nice back corner booth waiting on us. Two of us shared the half bottle of Benton Lane pinot noir, recommended by our waiter. It was delicious and I now have a favorite new wine. Unfortunately he didn't mention the half bottle costing $40. We probably would have passed on it had we realized that; we are not wine connoisseurs. Still, we did love it. There was one skinny peach margarita ordered. We began with two appetizers--the shrimp and grits (had to order two extra shrimp for it because it only came with two) and the calamari. The shrimp appetizer ended up being $27.95, but was outstanding. There was nothing special about the calamari. We have eaten at this location about 7-8 times over the last 2-3 years and we remembered the calamari being a little more special. Two of us ordered a salad, the wedge and a Jasper's greens. For entrees, two of our party had the peach bbq pork tenderloin (always a favorite). I had the sweet corn crusted striped bass, which was delicious, and like all the entrees, very beautifully presented. The fourth entree was the special of the evening, steak, shrimp, mashed potatoes, and pecan crusted asparagus for $40.00. We ordered our favorite side of mac & cheese, and after asking the waiter about it the 3rd time, it finally arrived....at the end of the meal however. Don't really recall getting an apology for that either. We also asked about bread but never received any. We love dessert, so we had one of the mini trios as well as an additional lime cheesecake. The crust on the cheesecake was so tough you couldn't really penetrate it with your fork, as was the cookie part of the ice cream sandwich. One person had a plain coffee after dinner, and we received our bill for $291.77. After gratuity, $342.00. I feel like this was a little much considering the meal and service was not really top notch on this particular night. It may be a while before I feel the need to return to Jasper's.

Mighty fine place for an afternoon lunch in The Woodlands. Beautiful interior as well as a big outdoor patio. Having formerly lived in Texas, I was surprised that this place served chicken fried steak and once I saw it on the menu, I had to order it. It was beautifully presented and served over whipped garlic mashed potatoes -- Yum! Our table shared the Maytag Blue Cheese Potato Chips. Wow - really blue, but so unusual we kept on eating them. I will definitely go back if I find myself in The Woodlands.
