“From CA to TX”

Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

Recently my husband and I traveled to Texas from CA to visit family and take in a concert here for Dave Matthews Band. Based on pictures online we compared this venue to our Shoreline Amphitheater or Sleep Train Amphitheaters. Once we arrived however, we were so pleasantly surprised that this venue is actually a little smaller in terms of actual seats (which is good because every seat is a good seat) and the lawn area is the largest we have seen, and awesome because it too is close to the stage and so large it allows for people to feel secluded and spread out and not piled in and cramped like other venues. The Woodlands area that surrounds this venue too is awesome. The bars and restaurants and water ways and the whole area is charming and fun. The only initial downside for us Californians was that we are used to going to concerts where there are bars and areas to get shots and drinks in the main concourse. After asking 4 different venue employees who did not know where on the grounds we could get a real drink (all of the non beer drinks on the main concourse are made with wine base not alcohol), we walked all over until we finally found the Hard Rock tent where they serve alcohol. We were not allowed to take the beers we had just bought on the main concourse in so we had to stand and drink them before we could enter. Once we entered we were also not able to take the drinks we purchased inside the tent, outside the tent. Now, this is probably not a big deal for most people and something Texans are probably used to but for us this was confusing and didn't seem to make a lot of sense. But, in any case we popped in had a couple drinks then left and went back to grab a beer and head to our seats. Again, this venue is great. The proximity of any seat to stage is awesome, and the beef hot dogs and BBQ on the main concourse, delicious. .

I love the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion mainly for their general admissions seating which is a giant hill with lush grass. They have chairs to rent for $6 or you can bring your own towels. They also have cover assigned seating but the tickets are always much more expensive. My only complaint about this venue are the outrageous drink prices. A beer is $12 while a frozen alcoholic drink is $14, these are wine based mind you, does not even include liquor. There are several bars right around the Pavilion that have happy hour so make sure to get your drink on before hand. Enjoy!

A great way to see a concert. We prefer the reserved seating in the front because sitting on the grass is a pain after a while. Plus, you're closer to the action. Be prepared to pay big buck ($10) for a beer and any food. Parking is easy across the street at the Mall.

We were there for Jimmy Buffet. Great place for a concert. Bit of a hassle with will-call and finding our tickets, but they eventually found them.

Excellent concert location and facility, great atmosphere. The acoustics and accessibility of seating areas are very good and the catering outlets are well stocked.
