Big Bend Casitas at Far Flung Outdoor Center
Certificate of Excellence

Very beautiful casitas. They are everything as advertised, spacious and comfortable with easy parking, and located conveniently at the entrance of BBNP. The outdoor seating is comfortable. We could not connect get wireless internet access, but it may have been due to a winter storm that was affecting the whole area with downed servers. We had planned to stay only 2 nights, but were marooned there needing to extend by another day. Valynda was very helpful not only in arranging an additional nights' stay, but also in helping plan an exit route that kept away form higher altitude roads which were icing up. Overall a very enjoyable stay (despite truant weather), and would recommend highly.

Stayed for three nights. The casita that we were in (12) was only 18 months old. It was very clean, with all wood, floors, walls, ceiling. It smelled like cedar. I would certainly stay here again. The only negatives were that there was only a shower, no bathtub and it would have been nice to have had a small table or another shelf in the bathroom.. The bed was very comfortable. The refrigerator only has a tiny freezer area which did not freeze well. The internet only worked about half the time. But We loved Big Bend and our stay.

The Casita was nice and clean, and the kitchen amenities were as advertised. There was no internet the whole time we were there, and they did not really seem to be too concerned. At first I thought this was a blessing, to be able to get away from it all, but being able to research the park each night, or upload photos is really handy, and we were disappointed in the lack of service.
We also had a bit of trouble with our reservation- we thought we had reserved a pet friendly Casita, but the day before our trip we found out we hadn't. The worked with us to resolve the issue, but just be sure to confirm you can bring your pets (by calling them and not assuming their web reservation system works perfectly). If the internet had worked, and the reservation system properly reserved a pet friendly Casita for us, we would have rated this Very Good or Excellent, but those two things left a bit of a sour taste. I might stay here again, but would insist on the amenities all working as advertised before paying full price.

These casitas, or cottages, each have 2 very comfy double beds, a kitchenette with fridge & microwave oven (no cooktop), and personally controlled heater/cooling. My only disappointment is although advertised as having wireless internet, the internet did not work for us or our friends for the entire week we stayed. Other places around the Big Bend park area had good internet service, so this seems to be a Far Flung Outdoor Center issue.

Great web site, outstanding staff and a wonderful location. Make sure you at least have a half day river float so that you get a very informative commentary about life, history and geology in this part of the world. We had Erica who set the scene for a fabulous 5 day stay.
The accomodation is superb with excellent access to 2 big bbq's. We intended to cook a big chilli but there was no stove internally ( understandable owing to the wooden construction ) Borrowed a pan from staff and hey presto did it on the bbq.
Was about to say it is a pity this place is so difficult to access but this is the beauty of it and big bend. Isolation. I may never return but will never forget my stay.

Room Tip: We had Casitias number 10 which is onit's own with great views to the mountains.

Far Flung has a comprehensive web site with detailed information and beautiful pictures.
However, many of us have had the experience of finding a web site experience significantly better than reality....not so with Far Flung. Our Far Flung experience was even better than what we had seen on-line:
* The staff was friendly, gracious and willingly offered useful information.
* The staff was honest...when they assured us Casita 1 would be quiet they were telling the truth.
* The staff made our ATV adventure fun - fun - fun :)
* Our Casita was THE BEST...besides being spacious, charming, sparkling clean and quiet - amenities were anticipated, the beds were comfortable and the rocking chairs on the back porch gave us the perfect place to wait for the best sunrises of our Big Bend adventure.
And, just like the sunrise...we think the value for price paid was the best of our trip.
We wish Far Flung much continued success and look forward to a return visit.

My husband and I planned a 9 day Wild West Vacation with two other couples. The highlight of our trip was to see the basin of Big Bend National Park and to take a river trip down the Rio Grand. As our trip date approached we were told 4 weeks before our trip that the original location we were staying had a miscommunication with our dates and they would no longer be able to accommodate us. Frantic, and looking for a place that could host 6 people I called The Casitas. They bent over backwards to find a way to get us in their casitas. A couple of weeks later the news came that the government shutdown would mean all National Parks would also be closed. We were determined to not let the government steal our joy. We kept our vacation plans as they were and figured we would play it by ear when we arrived in Terlingua. The Far Flung staff once again came to our rescue. They continued our river day trip, by just putting in and taking out of the river in the Big Bend Ranch State Park. The next day they booked us on a half day jeep tour of the state park. It was all so seamless we never once thought we were missing out by not seeing the National Park. They have a huge fire bowl that seats several people around it. It was a perfect way to end each evening. Even on the one night that a huge storm came through we stayed under a covered pavilion and played games and laughed all night long and no one complained about the noise. Seriously Greg, Valynda, Meridith, Randy, Dean, and Ben were all Fabulous hosts and by far, hands down, offer the best customer service I've ever dealt with. Even the girls that cleaned our rooms were awesome. They were actually just filling in for the normal housekeeper because their was a funeral to attend. These two sisters who cleaned our rooms were twins and were soooo sweet and friendly and was offering us advice of places to go and see. We will certainly be back!

Room Tip: Our group stayed in three different cabins, 2, 5, and 12. Although twelve is in the back it is still...
