“Gorgeous Views”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Based on the referral of another lodge owner we decided to stay one night here passing through Big Bend National park. The newer cabins are very nice and spacious. Great rockers on the front porch to relax. A courtyard with grills, tables and chairs to cook out. The rooms have large bathrooms and a nice kitchen area with coffee pot, toaster, microwave, frig and all utensils, cups, plates, bowls..etc.
If you decide not to cook there is a restaurant next door you can walk to and several up the road in Terlingua.
A storm came through and the back up generator did not start for a few hours overnight...so our room got warm. But it came back on and all was good again. Due to the storm they needed to put gravel in a few places...so early morning tractor sounds are not fun when you are trying to enjoy your coffer outside. The owners did come by and offer a apology for the noise. Keep in mind that you will pay a $10 additional fee for any children over 12. Our son is 14. I am not a fan of such fees. 14 is not a adult.
I did not like the 10 am check out time. I felt rushed. Perhaps they will consider extending the time to 11. That one hour makes a big difference.
But..having said that...the views are gorgeous and the owners have put in a lot of work and effort to have a nice, well maintained place. Staff is warm and friendly. Thank you Randy for cabin 10. It did have the best views.
They also have outdoor adventure tours down the river and on land to explore the area. We will be back to spend more time and take in those gorgeous views of the mountains. Very nice place.
It is located a few miles outside Big Bend National park west entrance.

We stayed in #12 for 3 nights and wished we could have stayed MUCH longer. The room and kitchenette were clean, comfy, and provided all the necessities. We made use of gas grills in the courtyard and saw the bonfire in the next courtyard over. We couldn't pull ourselves from the peaceful night sky and wonderful over-sized rocking chairs to attend the fun by the fire.

#12 has amazing views of the park and canyon and faces the wilderness. The other cabins (while just as nice inside) face either the courtyard or the road. When you go - and you must go - ask for #12. I think #10 & #11 also have the same view.

The casitas are marvelous. We paid about $130. I had read the positive reviews but was not prepared to fully trust them ...wow! This cabin would easily cost double in other places around the U.S. It is very well constructed with a faint scent of cedar. The furnishings are perfect. We are driving around several different locations in the west Texas area...but I wish we were staying here for most of it. We will stay longer next time! Ghost town tour and dinner tonight. Canyon raft float trip tomorrow. This is true big adventure for my young teens. Viva far flung!

Room Tip: We stayed in cabin #7. Well worth requesting this unit. Two queen beds. Wifi and flat screen TV. Th...

Casitas " Spanish for Little Houses" . My wife and I stay every time we visit Big Bend in Texas( we visit at least once a year). The casitas have porches ( with tables chairs and a rocker) they are new and are kept very clean. They feature a kitchen, HD Television, wi-fi, and The staff are very helpful with anything that is needed. Everything is excellent.

This is just a few minutes away from the Big Bend National Park Entrance. We stayed the week before Memorial Weekend because it was booked over the holiday. The cabins (casitas) are new and have everything you need. Microwave, Refrigerator, kitchen supplies and very nice bbq grills outside for your use. Water was good. It was quiet at night and lots of stars. We had two Queen-sized beds, but only needed 1 since it was just the two of us. The only thing I was missing was a dresser, but the nightstand has a large compartment. The firepit outside is HUGE and brand new. It's great to go sit out there at night. It's best not to pay attention to GPS once you get there and just follow the directions on Far Flung's website. There's a huge sign and you can't miss it. We took the canoe trip down the Rio Grande with Far Flung and had a great time. We also met the owners and they were very nice!! I hesitate to recommend this place because EVERYONE will go there and we'll never get in!!

These casitas are fantastic! Each one is a separate unit, so need to worry about noisy neighbors. Each one has a nice little porch in the back which is great for watching the sunset or just kicking back after a long day. Every evening there is fire going in the firepit out back, which is nice way to get acquainted with your neighbors and have a glass of wine or beer. There is large barbeque in the back too, although we did not use it. There is very good Mexican restaurant literally steps away. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, so I walked back to our casita, gabbed a beer and went back to my meal, which took all of maybe 45 seconds. The only thing I would add to the room is a dresser or built in drawers - I don't like living out of my suitcase, especially when I'm staying more than 1 night.
