My Husband and I stayed here for 5 days (4 nights) and we loved it! Terlingua is a funky little town with lots of personality and it's perfectly positioned near Big Bend National Park (and the state park also). It is only about a 10 or 15 minute drive from the Casitas to the entrance of Big Bend National Park, there aren't many places much closer. Las Casitas is located within walking distance of the Far Flung Outdoor Center, a liqour store and a Mexican restaurant, and within a few minutes drive of the other businesses in town. It was quiet and peaceful here, and we were hitting the bed early (10pm) so we could take advantage of the (relative) cool of the early morning. (It was over 100 degrees outside every day we were there in late June).
We were very pleased with the large size of the "room". It's actually a little house. We only needed 1 of the beds, but the other was useful as a platform of all of the planning sessions for our excursions into the park. I can see a family of 4 fitting in here just perfectly. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchenette was just enough for our needs. We had a microwave, minifridge (with really-minifreezer), kitchen sink, and full-size coffee maker. There were plates, silverware, mugs, cups, bottle/wine opener, etc. in the room, plus just enough coffee for 2 cups a day for 5 days. It had a nice back porch, and since we were in the back Casita, it looked out over some beautiful mountains at sunset. It is dark enough at night to see lots of beautiful stars and the Milky Way. Everything was super clean and new.
I loved the little touches like a real bath mat in the bathroom (shower stall only, no tub, but this is the desert so I don't think a tub should be expected down here) and huge, thick bath towels. There is even a hair dryer. The only criticism I have is that the faucets in our Casita's bathroom seem to have been installed backwards (turn the handles the wrong way from normal for off/on) but it only took 1 time to figure it out. The decor is lovely and perfect for the area. I love the metal ceiling and the hefty wood furniture, including the comfy rockers on the back porch.
I would stay here again, and recommend it to anyone I know who is going to the park. It was a little on the pricey side for us, put it is really a steal given what is provided. The only down side is that we went in the summer, so many of the shops were "closed for the season". That's not a reflection on this great place to stay though, just on the time of year we chose to visit.
