A great beach for enjoying the Gulf, you can have bond-fires, bocce ball, volleyball, or cookouts on the beach during the day and enjoy the sunset at night. If you want to camp out on the beach go 1 mile from Surfside Beach and you can stay overnight on the beach (dry camp only).

We have stayed at Surfside two summers in a row and loved it. Our ages ranged from 2 to 58 and everyone enjoyed it. There is not much to do in Surfside aside from the beach. That's what makes it so relaxing. You can easily go in to Lake Jackson or Galveston for entertainment. Each time we have rented a beach front house from Beach Resort Services. Our favorite house was Panasea, the porch cannot be beat. We have stayed on the pedestrian beach. It seems to be much cleaner than the middle beach and there are no vehicles driving on it. We did have run ins with jellyfish our second year, but keep some vinegar on hand and you will be fine. Another problem are the mosquitos. They are relentless, we had spray and the repellents hanging in the outside shower and by the doors. That seemed to help. Also, bring bottled water for drinking.

All in all, this is the best beach in Texas for families. It feels more like you are on the ocean rather than the Gulf.

We visited this week but didn't drive on beach-- the sand is to soft and if you don't have a 4wheel drive you will get stuck-

Better to park at entrance and walk in or visit a resaurant like Pirates Alley, order food and go to the beach in front.

The beach looks great! the sand dune barriers at the entrance look great. The amount of beach from the tide to the houses is a lot less. It is still fairly sallow for wading and many people are doing some surf fishing putting their poles in stationary holders. We saw lots of familes plus lots of dogs--not all of them on leashes. Didn't see any jelly fish carcasses, but would bring vinegar in bottle plastic bottle just to be safe-- No glass bottles on beach-- huge fine.

Still this is a great place for family and friends to spend time.

Every vechile must buy a yearly pass to drive on beach-- cost is nominal

Family friendly. Best place to hang out. Maintained very well. If it wasn't so cold right now...I'd be there. The sun is out in full force...but the temps are nearly freezing. We Texans don't handle that cold too well. Some people love it. Surfside is a great place for fishing. light surfing, get-togethers, vacations...you name it.

quiet and desolate, can drive your car on the beach. Not an issue that the sand isnt sugar white. Walked 4 miiles and saw one person.
