“A good, solid choice in a good location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2008

This is in the Town Square/Old Colony development, which is the closest thing Sugar Land has to a downtown. It is your typical Marriott – that’s intended as a compliment – and everything was fine. I had hassles using the express checkout due to a phone malfunction and had to go to the front desk in person, but that is a small grumble.

The hotel faces a street that is designed to mimic an old-fashioned downtown, with numerous upscale shops, restaurants, and bars. This makes it a delight if you’re looking for nightlife or a restaurant. However, the downside is there will be exterior noise from rowdy revelers on weekend nights if your room faces the street; the other side of the building faces the interstate.

There is a free parking garage, but it’s poorly marked. There’s no reason to use the valet parking service if you don’t mind a little walk. The hotel is very poorly marked because of strict zoning rules about exterior signs, and finding it will be a genuine challenge. Altogether, all things considered, this is an excellent choice.

I stayed here for a week with my husband for business. I was impressed with the small town downtown that had been created here. The area had a lot of personality with shops to browse and many quality restaurants to enjoy such as PF Chang, Amici, Perry's, Burning Pear, Cheesecake Factory, Kona Grill and BJs.

The room was nicely decorated. The central a/c with individual controls provided QUIET cooling. My only two complaints are that the outside door is thin so that you can readily hear hallway noise and the stairwell door needs to be buffered so that it doesn't slam closed.

Stayed the night of our wedding. Valet-parked, and my blue tooth headset was stolen from my car. My wife accidentally forgot a necklace, a wedding gift from a family member, on the counter in the bathroom. Went back to see if housekeeping had turned it in, and after waiting several hours to hear back from them I called and was told that they had "not recovered" anything from the room. Very disappointing.

  • Liked — Bed and pillows were soft and comfortable.
  • Disliked — Fact that bluetooth and necklace went missing upon our stay there.

We stayed in this hotel and loved it. Our room was as requested, higher floor with a city view. It was clean and neat. Chris at the front desk was very friendly and efficient. There is plenty to do within walking distance and security is plentiful. We felt very safe even walking down the sidewalk late at night. I felt that for $135/night, this hotel was better than many I have stayed in that were in this price range. We certainly weren't disappointed.

I recently stayed at the Sugar Land Marriott as I was attending a wedding nearby and the bridal couple selected this hotel for their guests. The hotel was perfectly adequate--clean, room was ready on time, friendly and helpful desk staff. But for some reason, I found it a bit sterile and impersonable so it falls into an average category for me. There was no bottled water in the room, no newspapers were delivered to the door (maybe because it was a weekend?) and the pool area felt like it was just maintained without any frills. There were no big pots of flowers or small niceties that would set this hotel apart. NO chocolates on the bed! Turn down service was never offered and for some reason, I was assigned a double bed room rather than a King, even though I had requested the later. I feel a little like Simon Crowell critiquing an Idol singer when he says, "It was just OK for me."

My room looked out over the pool, the busy highway and large expanses of black tar roofs. Not very inspiring and unfortunately they need triple pane windows like you find at some airport hotels which completely banish the exterior noise. The highway provided a constant hum in the room.

If I were on a business trip and preoccupied by work, maybe I would have felt differently and not have been so picky.

On the plus side, the beds were comfy, the toiletries were from Bed & Bath in my favorite scent (Orange Ginger), the room was clean and a good size.

The hotel has a nice restaurant, The Burning Pear, which is convenient and serves a nice brunch. The staff is helpful and the omelet-maker chef was great!

The hotel is located in a sea of shops, restaurants, and cafes, although they all felt a bit underutilized and there was a lonely feeling to the area. There is a Starbucks adjoining the hotel, which opens early.

I would stay here again but I would not go out of my way to do so.

  • Liked — The staff was friendly and helpful
  • Disliked — Nothing special or unique about the hotel

Rate on Expedia was $200+. Called hotel and got $129 - this is not Expeida's problem - hotel gives them their negotiated rate. Booked a "guaranteed" connecting handicapped room and one other (3 total). Got to the hotel and they had no record of guarantee. Sent runner to physically look for another handicapped / or connecting room. Delayed our dressing for a party for which we were late. No AM newspaper, no wireless, no 24 hour room service (closes at 11). Breakfast order took 1 hour and was wrong. Took 20 min to correct (needed two sodas and a muffin). Bellman took 30 min. This hotel needs a major tune up. Valet is $17. /nite?? Free parking just steps away. Staff needs a major tune up. Management was considerate, but should have made things right first and fast, then flagged the room to ensure no more errors. This is a nice hotel with terrible service. Pay and try your luck if you need to be on the square in the middle of Sugarland shopping.

Stayed at this hotel on a Saturday night for a wedding. The hotel was great! Brand New! My room was very nice, I had a king bed with view of the adjacent Sugar Land Town Square. The bathroom was very nice and very clean. There are about two hundred restaurants within 5 minutes driving distance, and about 20 within walking distance. If you are going to be in Sugar Land, I would highly recommend staying at The Sugar Land Marriott Town Square.
