My wife and I recently stayed at Rose Hill Manor for a short break as part of our holiday, touring Texas. We had great expectations of the Manor, having viewed the website and seen the numerous positive reviews on various review sites. I have to say, we were not disappointed. The location, accommodation, welcome at reception, owners & staff and finally dining are outstanding. The owners clearly pay a great deal of attention to detail. Our only disappointment is that we hadn't booked for a longer stay.

If you stay when evening dinner is available, be sure to book yourself a table. The dining is of the highest quality and the setting provides great views over the Texas Hill Country.

Rose Hill Manor was the highlight of our two week holiday to Texas!!

We anticipated an enjoyable stay for our anniversary at Rose Hill Manor. Upon arrival, we checked into our room and found it to be very pretty. We went to dinner, expecting a nice meal and good conversation. Unfortunately, when we booked our room we were not informed that our conversation would not be private in the dining room. It was very disturbing to learn as we dined that other guests were eavesdropping on our conversation and reporting things to the owner about what we thought we were saying only to each other. Therefore, if you plan a romantic trip, select another location. Marital relations and profanity are unacceptable at Rose Hill Manor, as per the owner Robert informed us when he asked us to leave during the third course of our meal. Honeymooners, this place is not for you. Their home does not allow what most honeymooners want to do - have private marital relations and conversation. We really wish we would have known.

While we are always sad to have an unhappy guest, we feel that we need to respond to what really happened to this couple:

First, we are perplexed about this guests' comments regarding "marital relations", as the incident that happened had nothing to do with "marital relations" as it is commonly understood. This situation had to do with an incident that happened in the dining room of the restaurant. We go to great lengths to ensure that our guests' accommodations are very private - just like in a hotel. We also try to make our restaurant as private and intimate as possible, but it is a restaurant where there are numerous tables in a room, so it is a public place

Secondly, this is the sequence of events that took place:

1. When they came to dinner, the gentlemen walked in with a full beer. When told that the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission does not allow people to bring their own alcohol into an establishment that sells alcohol, he chugged the entire beer at one time and handed the empty bottle to us to dispose of.

2. After being served a bottle of wine, this couple then proceeded to inform us that they had already had four bottles of wine that afternoon.

3. During dinner, another guest approached us in the hallway away from the dining room and said that if we didn't ask this couple to stop using profanity in the dining room, that they (the guests) would be doing so themselves. As we do not do "communal" dining, the couple that was complaining was at a separate table, so it was obvious to us that the use of this profanity was loud enough to bother some of the other guests.

4. We very quietly and politely informed the gentleman that other guests were complaining about this use of profanity and asked if he could "keep it down". His response was the use of profanity.

5. The guests that had complained then approached us and asked us if they could move to a table away from the couple so they didn't have to listen to his language. We complied.

6. The gentleman who was using the profanity then started asking another table (who were just minding their own business), if they were the ones complaining, thereby causing that other couple perplexity and embarrassment as to why he was questioning them.

7. We then told the gentlemen that he was going to have to stop using profanity and stop questioning the other guests. His response was more profanity and name calling. His response was that he didn't care about the other guests and that he would be spending more money than they would and the continued use of more profanity.
We then said that he would either have to be quiet or he would have to leave the restaurant and the property, and they did. We did not charge them for their accommodations or the part of the dinner that they had already had.

8. We don't have any idea what this reviewer is referring to regarding "marital relations". What our guests do in the privacy of their rooms is none of our business.

9. Upon leaving, these guests threw the rest of their empty bottles of beer out the window of their car at our gate, making the total alcohol that they consumed (that we knew of) - five bottles of wine and a six-pack of beer.

10. Upon leaving, these guests ran another driver off the road into the ditch on the county road.

In summary, all the guest had to do when told that other diners were complaining about his profanity is to lower his voice, and there wouldn't have been any problem. Our dining room has nine separate tables in it, and music plays at all times. If these individuals wanted to have a conversation where there was use of profanity loud enough for other guests to hear, they should have asked to sit in another room totally by themselves. We don't regulate what our guests do in their rooms, nor do we regulate our guests conversations. However, we do regulate the use of the public areas of the inn to the extent that we have the responsibility to try and make sure that all of our guests have an enjoyable experience.

So, if you are looking for a place where you can sit in a public restaurant and use profanity loudly enough that the other patrons of the restaurant complain, we would probably not be the place for you. If you're looking to get away to a beautiful place with beautiful rooms and scenery and have lots of privacy in your rooms and around the grounds, with a great culinary program - we probably are the place for you.

We were looking for good food, wine tasting, romance, and a little quiet and solitude, not to mention a break from work and Dallas for our 10th anniversary--and we found all of that and more! We don't typically stay at B&B's because we like privacy (and king size beds), but we thought the cottage setting might give us the experience we wanted, and we were right. The owners, Patti and Bob, and the rest of the wonderful staff were sweet, efficient, friendly, and available for whatever we needed, but we had loads of privacy when we chose to be alone, eat in our cottage and enjoy the sunset, sit outside and look at the stars, or sleep a litle late. We stayed in the Jasime Cottage and it was beautifully decorated with ample space, king size bed, and the sunroom was wonderful. The B&B's restaurant, Austin's, provided fantastic food and wine, and the prix fixe meal was a perfect blend of tasts, including the rather generous glasses of wine we added for each course. Not only was the experience the best, we had to make reservations for next year before we left!

My husband and I wanted to getaway to Hill Country and used Trip Advisor to help with the huge selection of B&B’s in this part of Texas. Driving up to Rose Hill Manor was just the beginning of an amazing stay! The grounds are so beautifully kept and the house is just amazing. We stayed in the main house and LOVED every minute of it.

The food was fantastic and the staff was so warm and welcoming. I highly recommend having a picnic on the grounds, I just wish we had more time to enjoy it. I HIGHLY recommend this B&B if you want a nice, peaceful, and romantic time away!

My wife and I stayed at Rose Hill slightly over a year ago and I am just now getting around to writing this review. This place is absolutely wonderful. We stayed Columbus Day weekend 2006, and can't wait for our next trip to Rose Hill. Two of our three nights there we dined in their restaurant for dinner. The food, wine, and service were superb. The cottage we stayed in was absolutely perfect. There were chairs on the porch and we were able to sit out and enjoy the peace and quiet and look out over the rolling hills of the hill country and bask in the serenity.

If you're thinking about Rose Hill as an option, you can't go wrong.

As an older (48 & 52 yr old) couple, we were looking for a romantic, quiet honeymoon combining minimal fuss with short travel distance. Since Fredericksburg and the surrounding Hill Country has always been a favorite spot for us, it was easy to choose Rose Hill Manor -- especially after reading rave reviews from many an upscale publication! Noticed on their website that they had a wonderful 3-night package which included breakfasts and a goumet dinner for two. Nice package; fabulous price!

We stayed in the Green Suite with a sunporch facing the beautiful Texas sunsets. Accomodations are super clean, and we asked about the brand of mattress of our king-sized bed because it was an absolute cloud of comfort complete with the smoothest, silkiest bed sheets ever!

The meals were the best I've eaten outside of a couple of 5-star New Orleans spots; it was far beyond merely delicious!

And if you like gazing at the Hill Country, Rose Hill has an unsurpassed view from each of its windows.

We highly recommend Rose Hill Manor; and we will be returning often.
