This restaurant has such amazing reviews that I reserved a table for my husband's birthday. We were a group of six who had been having fantastic food and wine in Fredericksburg as part of a getaway weekend--this was supposed to be the grand finale.
What a disappointment. The manor itself and surroundings are stunning, but the decor is in desperate need of a refresh--not classic, just plain dated. The food was decidedly mediocre--tough game hen with overly-sweet sauce, three out of three tenderloin "upgrades" to the fixed price menu were either very under or very overcooked (one of which was sent back to the kitchen and still hadn't reappeared by the time we were all finished with our meals). The dessert was fine. Our server apologized and comped the $14 upgrade for the meal that never got eaten--on a $550 tab that included full gratuity,
Maybe we caught them on an off night, but I wouldn't plan a special evening around this place.
