Owner description: Krause Springs is a well-known camping & swimming site located in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas. It is located in Spicewood, Texas approximately 30 miles west of Austin. The 115 acre property is listed on the National Registry of Historical Sites and has been privately owned by the Krause Family for over 50 years.Krause Springs has many natural sites to explore. There are 32 springs on the property, and several feed the manmade pool and the natural pool which flows into Lake Travis. It's a refreshing treat to swim in the Springs during the hot summers of Texas! If camping is in your plans, there is primitive tent camping as well as 24 RV sites with water and electricity available. Guests are also welcome to relax and to stroll through the Butterfly Gardens; take time to listen to the music of the wind chimes and the fountains during your visit!

First time checking this place out - read the reviews and went on a weekday to avoid crowds and crazy drinking crowds. It wasn't crowded and the facilities were great! Clean grounds, plenty of picnic tables, local gas station with everything at a larger store right around the corner, and a BBQ place just as close for the people not wanting to cook.... Kids loved the swing and jumping off cliffs into the deeper sections... Water was cool, not freezing. Bring floats - the office has an electric pump to blow them up or look for electrical outlets near the picnic tables. Bathrooms were nice for a park establishment - plenty of TP, tiled floors, with a shower, but no A/C - not expected though. Will be coming back for camping - very happy with our experience! Bring water shoes - rocks are slippery. Natural pool is easy to access for those not wanting to climb stairs. Natural spring area is a steep climb, but stairs have safety rails and not dangerous to use. Recommend having a smaller easy to carry cooler to take with you down there... otherwise you will be heading back and forth to your picnic area.

Natural Texas swimming hole! It is so beautiful here! They have a manmade pool and a natural swimming hole option both fed from the spring. They do allow alcohol, but no glass. The crowd on a saturday is pretty thick but not unbearably so. It is a lovely place to camp, and also to make a day trip. I would recommend keeping a good eye on your children should you bring them, as the rocks get EXTREMELY slippery. We saw several little ones running around unsupervised who slipped and fell. Please keep an eye on your children :)! Really nice for a relaxing swim and campout!

Krause Springs used to be a hidden gem in Spicewood, TX and was one of those places that we went every time we visited family in the area. Over the last few years though, Krause Springs has had a lot of write ups in popular magazines and is not that hidden gem anymore. It's still a very unique and neat place to go, but on a weekend day it's too crowded for my taste. The other negative is that the owners decided to allow alcohol there several years back and that really changed the dynamics and atmosphere. But if you're around the area during the week and looking for a true TX swim hole, this is the place. There is an entrance fee and you have to sign a waiver of liability.

The scenery was beautiful. However there was not much room, no water flow and too many patrons. Also the lady at the gate was HORRIBLY OFFENSIVE. I have not met such a vulgar rude woman in my life. Wouldn't waste my time or money on this place again.

Thank you for visiting!

If you could send me more details about your experience with our staff member, I would appreciate it. We want everyone who visits to have a relaxing and enjoyable experience, so any additional information would be helpful. You can contact me at kyle@krausesprings.net

I also want to address your statement about the water flow; Our springs flow year round, even during droughts. Was there a specific part of the property you were referring to that had no flow?

Also, we do get really busy during the weekends and holidays, so if you prefer smaller crowds and are able to, come visit us during the week. The fact that half of Austin's public pool's are still closed might contribute to our larger crowds too.

I hope to hear from you soon!

We went to Krause Springs about 4 times already. Cheap admission. Cold water. Clean bathroom. Safe to camp. The kids love the camp site. Love it.
