“They fry their hot dogs!”

Get a grip on your gall-bladder if you are going to eat here. They fry everything....even the hot dogs and the buns (they split them and fry them). The smell of grease alone is enough to turn you off. This is definitely a teen hangout. Not a bad thing at all, just be advised. The fries really will serve two or three. There are healthier choices for the price at other restaurants in Southlake Town Square. Skip the food and eat the peanuts.

This outpost of the DC-area chain has many fanatic followers. I first tried a Five Guys while travelling in Florida, then in DC. The Southlake location seems to attract mostly teens (especially on the weekends and summers) and families, so expect noise and crowds during peak-times. Five Guys is good, but not great.

Five Guys offers endless shelled peanuts, so beware if you happen to have a nut allergy. Nuts are flying everywhere and are usually all over the floor.

The menu is burger-oriented - offering only burgers and dogs. A veggie or grilled cheese are the only other options. No salads, tacos, or nachos here. Fries are the only side on the menu (regular and cajun-style).

Be warned the Five Guys' "regular" portions are huge. A regular burger (2 quarter-pound patties) and fries are over 1600 calories and 84 fat grams (info published on their web page). That's a LOT for one person and one meal. Get the Little Burger (a single quarter-pound patty) and share the fries instead. Honestly, the fries come in a large drink cup and are more than enough for 2 or 3 to share.

Five Guys is one of those places with a not-so-secret menu. You can order your burger "Presidential style" - regular cheeseburger, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard and jalapeno peppers (Obama's choice). Guess they change it whenever a new President takes office? Even in Republican Southlake, you can get a burger favored by a Democrat! :)

The fries are almost never greasy, since they are double-fried in peanut oil. But you can also ask for your fries "well done" to get them even crispier. I've found that if you dump the fries onto the paper bag the burger is served in, it absorbs enough of the grease to keep them from going soggy.

Five Guys is decent enough, but there are so many others doing almost exactly the same thing, they don't stand out like they used to. In the Southlake region, Five Guys now competes with a host of options including Kincaid's, Snuffers, Jake's, Peace Burger, Twisted Root, Johnnie B's, and Mooyah. Shortly (Summer 2013), a new In-N-Out comes just down the road to Grapevine.

Let the burger wars begin. And there will never be any reason to settle for an average (or bad) burger again.

Fairly good burger and freshly cut fries. The grilled cheese is great for adults and kids. Prices are a little high for burgers and fries but people in Southlake seem eager to pay so knock yourself out!

First time I've tried this place. The double burger was good with all the fixins but the fries weren't that great. They weren't bad, but I would prefer crinkle cut. If I eat there again I'll skip the fries. The peanuts were an interesting touch though!

Truly a treat! I had my usual Bacon Cheeseburger All the Way with many fries. I was not disappointed yet again. Every was hot and tasty, napkins and fork required!
