“Certainly a MUST VISIT while visiting SPI. Tons of fun for every age group (not just the college age).”

Club Pelican West

The band is simply fantastic! The place is very modern and hip. It is THE place to be in South Padre. The band is very friendly. They mix with the crowd during their breaks. They take song requests and do all of them justice. They can play/sing anything. They have a non-smoking section to the left of the stage. It is well air-conditioned. The dance floor is nice sized. The dress code is island casual to fun/dressy. I believe kids are welcome until 10:00pm. You may want to check with the club first to make sure.

This was our second year of visiting in-laws vacationing on SPI, and we couldn't wait to return to the Club for some great music and dancing. The band is very talented, and the type of music changes nightly. We have had great service from the bartenders who remember us each night. The owners/band does take some freedom with closing early if there isn't a crowd. They will show a video that lasts 30+ minutes until you take the hint. The locals and tourists are appropriately dressed and behaved, not necessarily the young college crowd.

My friends and I go to South Padre often, and first started watching Pelican West at other bars. We've been to their new club a few times in the last couple of years, and while we enjoy their music to a certain extent we have have not been impressed with the club. It is nice, but we recently received poor service, punctuated by a rude bartender. If I have my choice, I would not got back. Unfortunate, as we generally have had a good time watching the band.

Last year we had a great time here in October at this club. Went back this May. They advertised the time the band starts at 9:00pm it was after 9:30 when they finally did start. They started with broadway show songs and a sax solo then a solo song that was by a male singer of the band not the type of dance music that we came to hear. We went later the folowing nite and had better dance music for a few songs but left ,as did other couples when the male singer of the band started singing the song we heard the nite before. If they want to be a dance club they need to go back to what they did the year before. The dance floor was great, the service was great, the music other than solos was also good.

Pelican West is a two level nightclub venue that is located directly across the causeway (bridge) that connects the Island with the Texas Mainland.

This new club opened last year, and has table service available as well as at the upstairs or downstairs bar. Its a perfect venue for those that want to dance or listen to the ever present "Pelican West" - the resident band that used to be at the Radisson Resort next door to their new club.

The band plays cover songs...something like an amazing 2-300 of them....takes requests, and overall is living their dream. You can see it in their attitude and the way they run the bar/club. This is definitely the place you would take a date, or if you are a couple over 24 or so years old.

During spring break, Inertia Tours takes the club on Tuesday night for college spring break parties, but the weekends are reserved for locals and tourists alike.

I highly recommend it.

Inertia Chad
