“Good/Acceptable but not GREAT for a QUICK getaway.”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

Went to SPI for a long weekend getaway July 26-29, 2013 with my sisters (20 somethings) and we stayed in a 1 bedroom 1st floor level condo. The Tiki served it's purpose and was suitable for a quick trip but I will probably not stay there again. If I ever go back to SPI, I would just book another condo or hotel at least 1 month in advance to get a good price.
Pros:
-Priced appropriately for booking 1.5 weeks prior to arrival. $140/nt friday-sunday
-Close (1-1.5 blocks) from beach access
-Clayton's beach bar and grill is next door (easy access for food and drinks)
-Clean and well kept unit/amenties (kitched/bathroom) but mildly dated, king size bed was very comfortable
- 2 pools that were warmer than the gulf, but a little crowded most of time
- The kitchen was great for quick meals.

Cons:
- water pressure in the shower was very WEAK near the equivalent of standing in a hard rain shower and was difficult to wash hair (we all have long hair) & the water was either just below/above lukewarm, I wouldn't have been able to deal with it for more than 3 nights
- While having dinner in the condo with my family on Saturday night (laughing & have merry ole time); the security knocked really loudly and abruptly to inform us of a noise complaint. I didn't mind being notified of the noise complaint but the "security" guard was very RUDE regarding showing his credentials and identifying himself as the true security guard stating that if we didn't open the door he would call the police and have us evicted. He wore a black shirt with the word "security" written on it, that is sold in any costume store, and jeans and we were 4 women in a condo alone in a new place- EXCUSE US for wanting to validate his credentials prior to opening the door! Anyway, he validated it to us (and we had the police operator on the phone just to be sure for our safety) but he was still quite aggrevated, rude & contrite while informing us that the building "is cement and sound travels" and they have "residents who live here." Of course we kept quieter after that but he could have been more courteous dealing with paying renters and women alone in a condo.
- The sofa bed mattress was horribly UNCOMFORTABLE- could feel every spring and bar, you'll feel better with a queen size blow up mattress on the floor or on top of the sofabed mattress
- Management made us wear wristbands so beware if you have extra guests who want to come by; I think they have to check-in as visitors during the day in the office

Booked Our Reservation The Night Prior To Arriving. Next Morning While Enjoying A Family brunch Pest Controllers Knock On The Door And Say They Have To Come In To Inspect For Pests And Will Only Spray If They See Pests. We Had Four Children Running Around Eating And Barefoot. My Husband Said Well Either Way You Won't Spray Right? One Of The Men Said No And That They Would Apply A Gel. Well Exterminator Number Two Walked Back From The Rooms And Said To Not Step In The Wet Spots. Seriously?? My Father Started Feeling Short Of Breath Immediately And Left The Place. We Called The Front Desk And The Lady Who Answered Said The Spray Is Safe. Really?? To Eat And Have Toddlers Running Barefoot In It? We Packed Our Bags And Checked Out Before 11 Am. The Manager Was Ignorant, Ride And Half Educated To Say The Least. We We're Not Refunded The Remaining Three Nights. This Place Was As Decent As A Cheap Hotel But We Thought SinceThe While Family Was There Who Cares. But The Service Was Ridiculously Terrible. I Have Gotten Better Service In Third World Country Hostels. This Was Crap.

We stayed in 124. It is privately owned. The unit was fine but was a bit dated. The pool area was kept clean. The pool was a nice break from the beach which is about 50 feet from the complex. My biggest complaint had to do with the club right next door. If you aren't right next to it it is fine, if you are on that side of the complex you need to run your AC fan all night to drown out the noise. Would I stay there again, probably not but that was just because of the particular unit. Overall, the place was fine and was in a great location.

Room Tip: Get an updated unit and not on the far north side of the complex.

Tiki Condominiums are older but, depending on the unit, they are more than adequate. I recently rented a condo from an individual, not the condo management, and found it more than satisfactory. Clean, recently updated, close to beach, swimming pool, and laundry facility. A major bonus for us was that they were dog friendly. The purpose of our trip was beach time with our dogs, not hotel/city living. Tried not to spend time in condo, not because of its condition, which was fine, but because we were there for the romping on beach with our two dogs. Yes, there are swankier, newer, and eloquent hotels and condos on South Padre, but we figured why spend the money and kennel the dogs. This is not always our attitude; we enjoy staying at five star hotels and taking advantage of their amenities, their closeness to our objectives, whether it be sight seeing, restaurants, theatres, etc. But that was not the purpose of our trip. South Padre Island was great. Good fishing, boating, and dining at very reasonable prices. It is a local (Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas) resort. If I had to fly to a resort, I could think of many better beaches, but being able to drive there (about 6 hours for hometown of Houston) it was a score. I would recommend 4 or 5 days there since it is a small island. For beach time at a reasonable price and it is in close proximity to your home, South Padre is the place. Water is green/blue rather than brown like in Galveston. Silt from Mississippi River clouds water off Galveston.

Room Tip: If interested I will supply condo owner name.

The overall look of the outside of the condominiums does appear dated and a little "run down", however the unit we stayed in (#138) was recently remodeled and beautifully done. Very comfortable and convenient! The owners we dealt with were extremely nice and helpful and we had a very pleasant stay! The pool at the Tiki is nicely kept and the courtyard area is beautifully landscaped. Overall great experience!

We stayed at a condo on the second level facing the beach. We found the condo on VRBO.com and were very pleased with our two month stay there. The condo is privately owned, recently updated in every respect and we found it very comfortable. The view of the Gulf is very nice but we found that in Jan/Feb the weather can be variable.
There is lots to do in that area of South Padre Island as well as Port Isabel on the mainland. There are lots of shops, restaurants, grocery stores in both areas.
The grounds of the Tiki are kept very nice and the pool is well maintained. The Tiki is an older building but upgrades were being done all the while we were there. There are lots of returning guests to the resort. We would return again to the Tiki

While some of the reviewers on TripAdvisor say that their units were dated & run down, our condo was very nice! It had been recently remodeled and had all new tile floor, granite countertops, beautiful tile work in the remodeled bathroom, and all new decor. We rented directly from the owners on vrbo.com.

We had a very nice view of the beach & ocean from a balcony that stretched from the bedroom to the living room. We sat outside in the morning with coffee & the evening with wine... watching pelicans fly overhead & watching the waves crash on the short. Very peaceful.

The beach was one minute from our door, and the kids (ages 10 & 13) loved the pool, which is located in the courtyard. The pool was tastefully landscaped & the outdoor furniture is new. The water in March had to be over 90 degrees. Some units overlook the pool & others overlook the beach.

If you are a birder, this place is a very short walk away from the South Padre Birding & Nature Center -- just up & across the street. The Sea Turtle Rescue Center, which the kids loved, is directly across from the office. It is also just two properties away from a large public park located just to the north.

We liked this location because it is at the very north end of the "strip." We came for a relaxing family vacation & the beach and wanted to avoid spring breakers. These condos appear to be mostly rented/ owned by retired couples who walk the beach with their dogs, which suited our family just fine! It is a quiet place. We liked the laid-back atmosphere & would rent from this owner again.

Room Tip: Be sure to specify pool/courtyard view or beach view. There are no elevators so the third-floor unit...
