The seafood buffet was great! Good was fresh and want fishy like some places can be! Or server was Aubree Lynn and she was great! She was very personable! We sat on the pier and it was very relaxing. The only thing I personally didn't like was that instead of a regular buffet you couldn't serve you're own food. Nothing wrong with that just personal preference! We will definitely be back when we make another trip to padre!

We're all about having one of the best seafood buffets in town, so it's great to hear that you enjoyed everything. I'll definitely pass your complements on to Aubree. Next time you're in town, stop in and see us.

Best,

We were looking for a place for dinner and saw their ad "by airplane" so we gave it a try in support of their efforts. Wow, this visit turned out to become our best dinner ever! We went with the seafood buffet. The quality of food more than made up for the minimal varieties. There were roast beef, snow crabs, gulf shrimps, scallops, and fish. All were fresh and flavored as expected. Our server Olivia was very friendly and attentive. They even offer live performance show. For Tuesday, it was Polynecian dance. You could take pictures with the dancers. Besides the minimal selection of foods, everything else was beyond our expectation.

Have been to Louie's Backyard a few times. Have always gone to the top deck for drinks and to listen to the live band. Louie's gets 5 stars for that. This time went for dinner and ordered the seafood buffet. The first disappointment was they ran out of scallops before I could get any, they are my favorite. Everything was basically fried except for the crab legs and peel um shrimp. For the price, it was worth it. Food quality, not great, just good.

We finally found Louie's Backyward after spending half a week in South Padre Island. We sampled a few other venues (Daddy's and Blackbeard's among them) and found Louie's to have the best seafood buffet but what really set them apart was the service we got (once we made it past the reception area).

RECEPTION: We feared we'd made a huge mistake when we first arrived. There was a short line with 2-3 families ahead of us, but Louie's looked pretty expansive, even from the outside, and there were at least 3 women buzzing around the reception area -- so one would assume that ensured a quick seating. Not the case. What appeared to be the woman in charge (no visible name tag) told us she had a seat for us, then promptly departed. Leaving another hostess without context trying to seat us. It was unnecessarily complex and sort of stressful -- the opposite of what Louie's is trying to accomplish, we later found. Anyway, we eventually got seated on the lower level, outside, with a view of the water.

Well almost, the tables are sort of snug and we arrived to find a fellow solo diner with his chair turned out, enjoying the band performing on the deck above after his meal, oblivious to people trying to sit down right next to him. After more than one polite request to adjust his space a little so we could sit down, and a feint at moving his table a little (there was plenty of room), he stomped off in disgust. Weird, right? a) the hostess who seated us should have seen to this, b) what a rude dude (TripAdvisor made me change my actual descriptor), c) another fellow diner was kind enough to stop by after the fracas to lend support and say he saw the whole thing and the guy was out of line, d) the tables are a little close, Louie.

But anyway...

SERVICE: Once seated, we were in for some of the best service we've had on the island (and that's saying something since the wait staff at Pearl dining room have been pretty remarkable all week). Jay, the manager (we later were informed), took care of getting us started right -- he coached us on signature drinks, gave us a critical tip about the buffet itself and made us feel very welcome. We later found out Kayla was our assigned waitress, and she continued the great experience Jay had started. It's always refreshing to eat somewhere where the staff cooperate and work as a team like this. It makes you feel looked after. Plus we got to talk a little with Kayla when the dinner crowd slowed down, and we learned a little more about Louie's and SPI in general.

ATMOSPHERE: We really liked the vibe at Louie's. It offers something for everyone -- there's a bar, indoor dining, outdoor dining, a band upstairs that later turns into a nightclub, a locals-only bar... oh, and that view! The main outdoor dining looks right out on a the bay -- a perfect location for Friday night fireworks (we noted for next time). But Kayla warns you have to come early to get the "good seats."

FOOD: We both had the buffet -- hard to pass up since it had everything. Crab legs, shrimp in all styles (scampi and SPICY scampi! yum), fish, prime rib, and so much more. We went back more than we normally would. The margarita was done right -- Jay coached us smartly to get the rocks since the frozens would melt away with the heat/humidity. Clearly not his first rodeo. :)

RETURN?: Without a doubt. We loved SPI and already are planning to return... Louie's will definitely be a part of that -- probably more than once.

SPECIALS:
Mon-Tue: Fajitas $7
Wed: 25 cent wings
Thu: Half rack ribs $8
Fri: Shrimp basket $6
Sun: Surf & turf $12
Daily: Pork chops $8.99

We had the buffet Saturday night for $22 per person.
