We come to South Padre Island every summer. We noticed the same thing another reviewer noted: restaurants don't seem to stay open very long on the island. We decided to try Blackbeards because it has been here for many years and has a consistently full parking lot.
We ordered the lunch portions of fried shrimp, scallops, and cole slaw. The scallops were excellent. The shrimp were good, but fried in a batter that was a little "heavy" for our tastes. (It all depends upon the type of batter one is accustomed to eating. We grew up eating Mississippi beer batter, which is known to be lighter.)
We ordered the pecan bar and ice cream dessert. The bar was served warm and offered a good balance with the ice cream. While it was not the best dessert I've tasted, it was good.
Our total bill was less than $20.00, which is impressive for so much food. I will definitely eat at this restaurant again.
