“Really interesting and fun.”

This place is run on a shoe string budget, but they do a great job helping repopulate sea turtles. The short lecture we heard was very informative and kept my kids (ages 8, and 11) attention. They ask for a small donation when you tour the facility, which all goes to help the turtles. Durning the summer months they release baby turtles after they hatch, but you have to call to see if that will happen during your trip. One of the highlights of the trip.

“An amazing, educational, and inspirational experience.”

What these guys do is amazing! This place rescues and nurses injured turtles that are found around the island. Even though it says to donate $3 per person, I recommend you donate more or buy something. They have quick lectures to educate people on these beautiful animals and are open to any questions. As long as you don't stick your hand in a tank, you are pretty much free to take pictures and walk around. My wife and I spend hours just reading and looking at the turtles alone. Parents take your kids. Guys on dates, this is one good chance to score some sensitive points with the ladies.

Great experience with wonderful peolpe. We volunteered early one morning and the kids were able to feed the turtles. Plus, we were even lucky enough to see a hatchling release along the beach. This is a MUST stop for all families who vistit SPI!

“I have never seen anything like the hatchling release”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2011

We visited the facility on Tuesday, July 12. The facility is a collection of injured sea turtles in a variety of tanks, as well as some educational displays. A small $3 donation is requested. While there, we overheard babies would be likely be released into the wild the following morning.
The next morning we arrived at the designated beach at 7 am. Workers barricaded an area of the beach and showed us the newly hatched turtles up close. About 250 newly hatched turtles were line up along the beach to crawl toward the surf. (about 1 in 300 survive) We were close to the turtles but volunteers offered to take close-up pictures of the turtles. After several minutes the first turtle made it to the water, as we applauded. It was truly a unique experience.
