“Nice condo...very comfortable.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2004

We stayed August 8th for five nights at Saida Towers. Booked a one bed condo with Padre Island Rentals and when we arrived they upgraded us to a two bed two bath in Saida One. It had a great balcony and view. The beach was lovely. The pools were fairly well maintained and cleaned every day but as a load of people were using them they were a little cloudy.
The condo was clean and comfortable and we were very happy with it.
We also took a great Dolphin Watch boat trip. It was billed as an 'Eco' tour. There were loads of dolphins to be seen....and then they put out a net and then did a full presentation of the contents when it was hauled back in. Very educational and very enjoyable. The company was "The Original Dolphin Watch" to the right of the Sea Ranch restaurant.
The only gripe we had was that the food tended to be a bit samey in the casual dining restaurants.
Louie's Backyard does a great Seafood buffet for 18.75 which has prime rib, crab claws and shrimp and is very good.

Our family recently took a week long trip to South Padre that was disaster from the first step on the island. We were like others and had done research on the internet for places to stay. After thinking the Royale looked nice, we made our reservations back in March, 2004 for the week of July 24, 2004. After spending the day getting there, we are told that they overbooked and we did not have a room. (condo) I had a confirmation number and owell, sorry. The condo they had for us was not even near the beach, however we had to take it because there was not one other room available on the island. My question was 'we were told that if we were not coming we had to cancel 72 hrs in advance or we would be charged - but they did not even contact me at all when they were overbooked and were going to bump us out of our room. O'well, they are coming from IL - what can they do once they get here. They were right, everywhere we went, we were jabbed because we felt we were the wrong nationality. We also went Deep Sea Fishing at Osprey's and caught alot of fish that we paid to get cleaned and thought we were going to pick up when we left, only to be told that our fish had been stolen. Right? NOT!!! We don't feel we were dumb, we are just good honest people that trusted the people on SPI would be the same. Oh, were we ever wrong. South Padre Island sucked and we will never return!! I would like to think they cared about all the money we spent there, but I truly don't believe they do. We have visited FL at least 10 times and have never been treated the way we were.

We went online to book our condo with Padre Island Rentals. It is very nice to be able to see pictures of the condos while making your choice. I selected what I thought would be the perfect place for our family - a one BR King, two bath in Tower II. It is next to the pool and the beach access, and has carpet, which I thought would be a plus underfoot. I was wrong-it was disgusting. The entire condo needs updating; even the front door looked as though it had been broken into (metal plates were used to repair two large breaks in the door itself). The carpet needs to be replaced with tile, and the mold needs to be cleaned from the ac unit. Although the bed was very comfortable, we were glad to have brought our pillows-the ones supplied were tiny and lumpy, and not enough pillows for all of us. On a more positive note, the condos are beautifully landscaped, we had a great view of the ocean, pool, and of the Friday night fireworks on the bay from our balcony, and this particular unit (#2502) had two pull-out couches so each of our kids had their own queen-sized bed, which we shared with them for late nite TV viewing before retiring to our bedroom. We did not frequent the beach in front of the condo because of the deep sand between the condo and the beach (my husband suffers from an old football injury), but had a great time on the north end of the island at the beach there - only a ten minute drive from Saida. Note that if you do rent a condo from PI Rentals you will be given one set of towels and must turn these in each day at the office (located only five minutes down the road) between 11:00 and 3:00 so that you can receive clean towels; this needs to be worked into your itinerary. It appears the stay at the Royal Beach & Tennis Club is a bit different from the Saida Towers, although they are all the same complex. It looks to be that The Club has more of a hotel atmosphere with actual staff; The Towers are like apartments-there is no maid service during your stay unless you are there for a week or more (then you receive one visit per week), and no on-site management. There are a lot of fees attached to your condo rental which ups the price of the per night stay quite considerably. I think next time we visit the island, we will look at a suite hotel; we'll still be able to have breakfast and lunch in our room (saving time and money) but will have maid service, and enjoy the availability of hotel staff in case something is amiss with our room. In hindsight, I wish I would have called the rental agency and asked specific questions about the condo I wanted, especially info about the last time it was updated! I also now know that staying right on the beach is not important to us - we enjoyed the wilder northern beaches with vehicular access. I would now even consider a bay side accomodation....

We stayed in Saida Towers IV the 2nd week in June. The service we used to rent the condo was Island Services. They were personable, very quick to help with some minor problems, and very kind. I was thoroughly impressed. The condo itself and the facilities it had were fantastic. The workers around the condo were always friendly and helpful. We had 8 people(4 adults/4children) staying in our condo and there was plenty of room. The Gulf was right outside the condo complex as promised also. I would highly recommend this resort to stay at, and also highly recommend Island Services to help you plan your stay

This was our second time to go and staying here was a little different due to the room we got. The service was great and so were the pools and beach but it depends on the room. HTey each had a faboulous veiw but the first one looked like marble floors and awesome furniture and the seconed was a bit different. the second on hade tile and the furniture need update. the veiw was the best but it is worth going again. It is just luck of the room you get.

We just got back from S Padre and stayed at Royale... Overall, its a nice place. The only thing I don't understand is why they charged hotel guests $25 for a wrist band which supposedly allows access in and out of the facility. It seems to me that hotel guests should not be burdened with this charge.

We have returned to the Royale for the past 5 yrs. during the months of Jan. and Feb. The warm welcoming staff, spacious cono units, and attractive facilities make this one of the best choices on the island.
All that keeps my review from excellent status is that repairs on the mulitiple hot tubs, tiles in the condos, etc. always seem a little lacking, only a minor irritant in the total view of things.
