“Fun, fun fun!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2012

We stayed here the second weekend of April for our early anniversary and the actual hotel met our expectations of what we saw online. There are only about 12 rooms though so be specific about your needs when you make a reservation. Some rentals are small and others are larger with more rooms. Also some directly face the beach and a couple are tucked in the corner with not as nice a view.
Overall, we had so much fun it was almost like being at an all inclusive. We would get up in the morning, walk out 40 yards to the beach to watch the sunset. Then we would get breakfast and then park ourselves at the beach in front of the hotel. I recommend renting the chairs and umbrella from the guy at the beach (his umbrellas are wedged down into the sand and won't buckle under the wind). If you get up early enough and stake your area you can avoid the bartenders preventing you from carrying your ice chest across the big beach deck. Otherwise you have to take it all the way around the bar.
The bar at Clayton's was awesome; half shaded, half sunny with a full bar, restaurant for lunch and dinner, and a small stage for the live music that played all weekend. The food was really good too. We had seen reviews about the bar being too noisy at night but we went the weekend there was a biker rally and the only noise we heard from our room was several hogs leaving the hotel at closing time and revving up their engines :)
We were pretty much barefoot the whole time we were there, making a trail from our hotel room, to the bar, to the beach. The pool was small but refreshing and though it was not the newest, most upgraded place we've seen--it was cozy and quaint. We also like the idea of helping out the little guy and keeping small businesses alive. The La Quinta next door had a sad little beach bar while ours was hopping!!
We had plenty of towels, soap, shampoo, etc. for our stay. Yes, there is communal coffee so if you need a special frappalappamochalatte you will have to drive down the street to the nearest coffee shop.
We would definitely go here again and really enjoyed our stay. Staff was friendly and accommodating, rooms were neat and clean. Good value for the room. I almost didn't want to write this review so it didn't become the next big thing but I want it to be around for years to come so please go here and support local!!!

The HUGE patio/beach bar is so fun to visit. Watch the gulf waves and enjoy your favorite brew. The food is goo there too! Afternoons host live music and dancing - barefoot if you want. Great island casual atmosphere.

Just fresh off our trip (2/20-2/23). We stayed in suite 1 and at first, I was a little put off by the huge, looming deck recently built, and entirely blocking the view to the beach. Then to top it off, the hotel made it very difficult for guests to go up to this deck and to the connected bar/restaurant.

That being said, it was a great place to stay. The room was large yet cozy, a big, flat screen TV, and the bed very comfortable. We enjoyed long walks on the beach and wasting away on the deck of our room in the sun. As for the new deck, I warmed up to it. We loved the hours we spent on it people watching in the sun with drinks from the bar. The food was typical bar food and we only ate there once, but it was some of the best fried shrimp we ever had.

Other drawbacks, no soap provided in the room???? We had to go out and buy our own. Also, there is no in-room coffee. They have a coffee station, but then you're at the mercy of whoever made coffee before you got there.

No place is perfect, but this was simply a lovely, lazy stay and completely enjoyable. We won't hesitate going back.

Room Tip: Since the rooms are connected to a bar, I could see it getting noisy. Since we were there on the off...

Stayed at claytons in the off season. We happened by and had lunch. The location drew us in. We could dine on the beach. Lunch was pretty good for bar food. We met the owner, Clayton. He was very accommodating. The place is old and 50s kitchy, but has been nicely updated.

Only complaint was on fri/sat night there were many LOUD guests that partied LOUDLY until 6 am! I'm not sure how they were able to do it. They were not young.

I'd stay there again, just to give it another chance. It was a nice, reasonably priced alternative to the chain hotels on the island.

First of all, Kami the front desk lady bent over backwards to make us happy. She was always smiling, very polite and always willing to help. All of the 11 rooms have great balconies overlooking the pool and the ocean. In addition, the facility has Clayton's Beach Bar located just a stones throw from the room. Close but not too close as to be a nuisance. Here you can get drinks or moderately priced bar food ranging from oyster to burgers. There is live music and a view of the gulf that is incredible.

Although my room was dated(ie the bathroom) it was clean, cool and comfortable. They unfortunately need TVs and an ice maker besides the one at the bar. All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel and thought at the $150 price point that it was a good value.
