Even though we live in the RGV we decided to spend our summer vacation at Schlitterbahn in SPI and it was great! My kids ages 8 and 9 loved it. Also, having the lifeguards there every couple of feet away reassured me and let me relax and enjoy our vacation. Looking forward to going back again real soon.

Safety & fun all right in your own backyard here in the Valley!

A great way for the "locals" to have a memorable vacation with the family and save some travel costs, plus we do our part by allowing free outside food & drinks, plus offer free parking!

So close, you can treat the family to "vacations" more often!

Thanks,
Mike

“Schlitterbahn at South Padre - Waste of Money and Time”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

Took two teenage boys here thinking it would be a really great place like most water parks in the US. We were disappointed and disgusted. First off, it's dirty and poorly maintained. I got the impression that this place exists only for one purpose, to be a cash cow. It is obvious whoever is managing the park wants to put as little money into it as possible to keep it running. All of the buildings look worn out and run down. The cement edges of the lazy river are all cracked and crumbling. In the entire park there are no water fountains from which to get a drink, so you are forced to purchase all drinks. You can bring your own, along with a cooler or picnic lunch, but you have to rent a table. This is on top of the $50 per person entrance fee. In the main cabana area the women's restrooms had only 3 booths in which to change your clothing. It had 4 showers inside the restroom plus one broken one. The curtains hanging over both the showers and dressing rooms were dirty and damaged. Both the men's and women's restrooms were disgusting. When renting a locker, you are given a key and a "token". The token serves no purpose. I asked her why I had to have it and was told "to get back your $2 deposit, you must return the token". So the entire exchange is designed in hopes of you losing the token and they make another $2. Ridiculous. Then when I turned in both the token and the key, they wanted to give me a large plastic souvenir cup instead of my $2. The park is not that large. It is mainly a lazy river with most of the other rides branching off of the lazy river. The rapids was really the only fun part. We went on two of the water slides, in the bottom parts of the slide there was only about an inch of water, resulting in your bottoming out at a high rate of speed which was both painful and dangerous. Don't wear a good bathing suit to this place, wear an old one. I hear the Schlitterbahn park near New Braunfels is much better. Sad. This could be a boon for the valley but the greedy manager has run it into the ground. My teens were bored after only 3 hours and that's at $50 per person. Keep driving!

Sorry to hear that you did not have the time you expected or that thousands of others do upon every visit.

We work hard to keep the grounds clean with large amounts of fresh foliage and plenty of seating and trash cans, plus a large grounds crew that is constantly keeping everything up to par.

We offer Guests the choice of souvenir cups or their deposit returned when the lockers are returned so that we can maintain the lockers properly and not have to change out locks constantly due to the keys not being returned...this is done in the customer's best interest.

Your personal characterizations and attacks are without merit and do not warrant my response.

We will continue to strive to provide safe, clean, family fun to our Guests with nearly two dozens attractions and a new (opened in 2013) year-round, heated, indoor section as our commitment to giving the RGV one of the best waterparks in the country.

“Fun day at the Schlitterbahn”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

We are a family that loves the Schlitterbahn, especially the New Braunsfels original "river" section. My boys are 10, 12 & 14. We came here in 2006 and had a fun day and came back this year when we were in Padre, and we all had a great time again. Most of the tube rides flow off of the main lazy river. Our favorite thing is how the lines are actually in the water, brilliant idea! You don't mind waiting in line awhile, especially if you're cooled off and not standing in line holding your tube. It's also great that you can bring in a cooler with lunches and drinks (no alcohol or glass). Park was clean and there were plenty of tubes available (we were there on a Thursday, it was busy but not packed). Lifeguards were friendly and very attentive. The lazy river is a ride in itself, especially in the rapids section. There is also an indoor section with a few more rides, just walk through the tunnel to get to it. Only negative was that I came down really hard on my tailbone on the Tempest (was a really fun ride til that happened), but rest of my family went down it fine...I must've just landed weird, oh well. We had a fun day and will be back next time we're in Padre.

Thanks for the thoughtful and thorough review of your visit....

One only question is, what took so long to come back? :o)

We always are looking for ways to utilize the latest technologies to enhance the Guest experience and provide spills and thrills that you can share with the entire family.

We are grateful for your visiting again and next time you come down, please consider staying in our new 220 room beachfront hotel, where resort Guests save at least 40% off admission!!

Thanks again for being a Schlitter-Fan!!

“Lots of Fun”
Reviewed July 21, 2014 via mobile

Go early and stake out a covered picnic table. Coolers are allowed, but no glass. You can leave and return during the same day and parking is free. I would not bring a child still in diapers, they are too young to fully enjoy this wonderful park. Every other age group will have a blast. Admission price was high, but a lot of the local hotels offer discounted tickets. A must do, when at padre!
