“Take Time To Stop”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

On our way home from a trip to the Grand Canyon, we decided to stop at the Slaton Bakery and check it out. It was a good decision! The variety of baked good was wonderful and the food melts in your mouth. The Slaton Bakery is a rare gem in the Texas panhandle.

“Great Bakery with History”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2013

The Slaton Bakery is a wonderful family owned bakery that has some of the best baked goods anywhere. Located in the town square of Slaton the bakery is a wonderful stop for people traveling on Highway 84 just south east of Lubbock. We always stop for a breakfast snack and usually eat in the dining area in the back where a museum of sorts is located. Old bakery equipment and photos of the early history of the bakery are located throughout the store but concentrated in the back. We highly recommend the Coca Cola cake since that is our favorite.

“A "Must Stop" Bakery Experience for Travelers on Highway 84”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

The Slaton Bakery is located about 5 minutes east of Highway 84 on the town square in Slaton, TX and is about 15 minutes south of Lubbock. Travelers looking for a "one of a kind bakery experience" or seeking a place to have great lunch will find this bakery to be a "must stop' as they travel along Highway 84.

The Slaton Bakery has been serving local residents and travelers from all over the world since its opening in 1923. As a lover of "hometown bakeries," who frequently stops at small-town bakeries, I would rate The Slaton Bakery as one of the finest in Texas. The bakery always has many varieties of cookies for customers to select from and is especially famous for its thumbprint cookies (the bakery is known as "the thumbprint cookie capital of Texas)," fancy pies, and varieties of fresh breads. Also available are a wonderful selection of breakfast pastries, cakes for all ocassions, donuts, holiday candies... .

Travelers seeking a deluxe lunch at a reasonable price in a bakery setting are also encouraged to visit the Slaton Bakery. For about $7.00, travelers can select from 5-6 different types of sandwiches and then choose the type of bakery bread, cheese, and toppings they prefer on their sandwich. Included with the lunch are a large soft drink and a bag of chips or a slice of the bakery's "pie of the day." My choice is always (and recommendation to others) to spend a little more and have the chips and a slice of pie included on the lunch.

The Slaton Bakery contains an indoor eating area, historical exhibits on baking/bakeries, and an extensive collection of cookie jars (many of which are for sale). To local residents and highway travelers, it is known as "The Best Kept Secret in West Texas" and as travelers proceed south on Highway 84 from Lubbock, a large billboard sign proclaims this designation. After many visits to the Slaton Bakery, I highly recommend others visit the bakery and discover this "West Texas Secret."

“The Pride of Slaton!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

When it someone's birthday, this is probably the best bakery in the Lubbock area. It smells just like you would expect a good bakery to when you walk in the door. They always have a good staff on hand to take care of you as well. The only reason I'm only giving four stars is that the location is inconvenient (which I realize they can't help), and I'm not a huge bakery guy in general. BUT--if you want good desserts, this is the place!

“YUMMY!”

If you're looking for cookies or cakes, the Slaton Bakery won't let you down. I recommend their red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, or the famous chocolate thumbprint cookies.
