We go to San Angelo a few times a year, and we are constantly looking for good hotel values in this very overpriced town. We had been staying at the Rodeway and found it to be a good value, but when they raised their rates by some 50% over the past year, we decided to look elsewhere. (Last time, they told us the increased rates were due to demand from the “oil boom, “ yet they were only at 55% capacity, according to the staff. Go figure.) Best Western is a direct competitor, located in the same area. We found it to be superior.
The price was a little lower than the Rodeway (though still higher than similar accommodations in most Texas cities). But the biggest advantage was that Best Western has queen beds, which is essential when travelling with our family of four including two adult kids. Double beds just do not work for us.
The room was clean and included a frig and microwave. The beds were comfortable and had several pillows. The heating/air conditioning unit worked fine. Wi-fi was free and fast. We did not get a chance to try the breakfast, which the check-in clerk told us was a “full hot breakfast,” which would also be an improvement over the limited breakfast offered at their competitor. Excellent water pressure in the shower was a treat!
It is nothing fancy, but we don’t want to pay $175 or more a night for a standard hotel room at the Comfort Suites, Fairfield, or Hampton Inn. This is a more affordable alternative. We had a comfortable stay, and will stay here again.
