If you arrive late and leave early, this would be a nice enough hotel for your purposes. We were there for three days and the ambiance wore thin after about one. I will not hold the Microtel accountable for the wild, little league baseball team staying there-raising Cain until late at night-but the hotel itself could use some work. Cleanliness was an issue, staff were nice (enough), it was just an average experience.
I stayed here twice -- first in April and then again in June. Both on business. The first time, I got a single queen bed room and was shocked at how small the room was! It worked and I had no real complaints, but you do not want one of these rooms if you have a lot of baggage or gear! The second stay in June, I got a room with two queens and what a difference! Plenty of room although they're still quite skillful in making much out of not a lot of space. Very clean. No complaints on that.
Breakfast is virtually all carbs. So if you want some protein with your breakfast, best to bring along some protein bars or something. If you're fast, you might snag some yogurt, but it goes quickly! Otherwise, cereal, toast, bagels, muffins, waffles, and maybe a piece of fruit, along with fruit juices, milk and coffee.
Keep in mind that San Angelo is reaping the benefit of rediscovered oil in the area and the hotels are all full of riggers and field workers. Hence, rooms are expensive and you'd better not try to book too late!
I'd stay here again.
