Royer's Round Top Cafe is a destination of itself. Bud Royer has built a great dining experience that matches any big city dining experience without the fluff and stuff. Expect community tables that you share with others. Expect to wait for a table and it is worth the wait. Expect great flavors and choices of entrees that you would certainly not expect in a little city diner. The pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and creamed corn is to die for. Leave room for a slice of pie with iced cream although that is asking a lot since portions are generous and too good to leave on the plate. Do not expect a fine dining ambiance. I always leave feeling like I need a hammock under one of the trees in the city square across the street for a little nap before I see the other sites of Round Top.

We loved it so much that we went 2 days in a row. The burgers and pies are fabulous. The first day we went it wasn't crowded at all. The second day was a Saturday and we decided it was worth the 45 minute wait. It is a small venue but the atmosphere fun.

Quite the eclectic place to grab some food. Crazy things on the walls and ceilings and really good homemade pie. Highly recommended for a fun stop.

Fantastic quality food. The pies are to die for. It's definitely worth the wait. A Fayette County institution.

Royer's Round Top Cafe is worth the drive if you live anywhere within an hour and a half or two hours away. Bud started out making and selling the best pies you'll ever eat, and thankfully branched out to a full restaurant. On the menu the steak is touted as the best there is anywhere, and let me tell you, anyone who says it isn't will be forever branded a liar to those who have eaten it. I have had steaks in the finest steak houses from New York to the Big Island and points in-between. All of these steaks are second best to the steak you will taste at Royer's. I thought nothing could be better than the rack of lamb, but I was wrong. So wonderfully wrong. I'm a foodie... I don't joke about food or Texas Aggie football. Trust me, Bud could give a full money-back guarantee on this steak and never have to pay out a dime. But don't miss the side dishes--eat these first before you fill up. Portions are ample to say the least, so go there hungry. Bud's main philosophy is LITS (Life Is Too Short), so go there expecting to wait a bit (no reservations) and relax and soak up the atmosphere of small-town Texas. There's a sign out front that says "In a hurry? Drive to Houston." Don't do it. You will not find a better meal in Houston. And for goodness' sake, don't forget the pie...Take one or two home since you probably won't have room to eat any there. I cannot stress enough to all of you how fabulous this place is. Eclectic, friendly, full of good people who gather to experience an almost life-altering event. Go there. Go now. Go again. And again. Say hi to Bud. He'll be on the stool to the right as you go in. He's larger than life in more ways than one and twice as friendly. Oh, and bring cash...it is the preferred method of payment, but MC and VISA will do if you just can't remember to stop at the ATM. Take friends with you--they will thank you on a weekly basis and tell all their friends how great you are.
