The last time I was there, they had a collection of watercolors of the 22 or so lighthouses that once aided navigation on the Texas coast. They are good paintings and convey some history as well. They also have some artifacts from the "Belle" a ship in LaSalle's ill-fated attempt to find the mouth of the Mississippi.

If staying in the area, visiting this museum provides interesting information--particularly for Texas' early naval history.

An amazing number of exceptionally high quality exhibits is found in this small maritime museum. The first floor exhibits showcase Robert LaSalle’s French expedition to Texas in 1684, and offer an archaeological and historical perspective on the experiences of the explorer and those who accompanied him. There are several informative short films and interactive displays, maritime tools, and ship models. Other featured displays focus on oil drilling, fishing and fishing equipment, and the history of the Texas Navy. Be sure to take in the excellent view of the harbor and town from the museum's third floor.

The museum is staffed by knowledgeable volunteers who do a wonderful job of providing an overview of the museum, the history of the displays, and pointing out restrooms, special exhibits, and the elevator to the 2nd and 3rd floors. Exhibits are well-organized and the museum is well-designed for ease in viewing the incredible number of things to see.

Not too expensive ($6 per adult and $5 for seniors). There was more here than I expected for such a small museum.

Make sure you watch all the movies on La Salle. The floating brain matter was like you are watching "Bones" on TV!
