“Will Be BACK for sure! EXCELLENT!!”
Reviewed August 31, 2011

Get a room on the top floor so you can see the ocean. Hotel was clean, rooms were great, with fridge and microwave, flat screens. Good hot breakfast every morning. Outstanding helpful staff. Nice clean pool, we used it every day. Hotel is right across the street from Rockport Beach Park. About 30 miles south is Corpus Christi. Plenty of stuff to see and do with in 30 minute drive. Will BE BACK FOR SURE. Everything was better than expected.

As mentioned before. Only thing nice about the hotel is that it is brand new. The colors, decor, lobby, breakfast area rooms - were all very well coordinated, designed and had that new "hotel" smell.
We chose this hotel because it is located right accross the street from Rockport Beach Park - which made it perfect hotel location.
My overall impression of the hotel is that it is just a shell - nice
,pretty, brand new hotel. But thats it. Employees give it no "life" - no wow. Seems as everyone is walking around like zombies and that reflects on how guests feel- and most times i saw even guests walking around like zombies, unimpressed.
Some points to make:
1) pulling into hotel drive way to check in, there were 3 guys sitting on a bench in front of hotel, no shirts, tatooed bare skin, ice chest, and beers in there hands. Great. Exactly what i want my kids to see(input sarcasim). This really set the tone of the type staying at the hotel.
2) front desk folks were not impressive at all. They seemed as if they were just there to collect a paycheck. No personalities. No smiles. No conversations. No recommendations. They were just there. Blah.
3)luggage cart - one of them was falling apart and being held together by some kind of strap/pulley system. And one of the wheels was about to fall off. Hotel cant just toss and get another one? That is just a serious accident waiting to happen. Ireported this to front desk lady and she just said " i will tell the manger".
3) on first night comng back from beach, there was a guest in parking lot on cell phone screaming, cursing, and crying LOUDLY. seems as he was having argument with his girlfriend over the phone. Again, just what i want my kids to see ( sarcasm). Reported to front desk. She said: "Oh, yeah. Those guests have been with us a long time. And they do stuff like that all the time". Amazed that they would allow that type of behavior and guests on their property. Especially since this guy seemed as he was ready to do some bodily harm to someone. Seemed as a dangerous situation. But the hotel allows that.
4) bathroom shower head was so high up towards the ceiling. Not good for shorter folks if they want to reposition shower head. It looked akward and does not make sense.
5) the rooms are nice. But. The room had a little hallway like entrance ( seemed like a wasted space) that was layed with tile all the way to the bed area. Again, awkward to have so much tile instead of arpet. Perhaps because of the hotel being close to beach you need tile for the sand. But it felt weird, dirty, and uncomfortable. Because we had to lay towels all over tile becuase of the shower wetting all over floor.
5) one evening we complained to front desk that the people upstairs were making so much noise. It went on for over an hour after 1 am. Nkt sure if they were running or walking. When i reporte, the lady seemed as if she did not care and said she would check into it. I dont think she ever did. The noise continued. When, i brought this when we checked out, the lady at front desk gave a half hearted "im sorry" and just gave me my hotel receipt.
6) breakfast was just barely ok. Pancakes that come out of the machine. Omelettes that look like they just thawed and microwaved. Same thing for the biscuits. Ham microwaved until it was hard as a rock. Evrything they served was processed food. Nothing was freshly made. Everything came out of package, microwaved and served.
6) employees were not impressive. No personalities. Seriously, it seemed as if they were intentionally working behind the scenes. No interaction with guests. No smiles. It just felt as if there no employees working there. Front desk ladies were just.....okay. Breakfast lady was almost nonexistant. Had to remind here to refill a few items for breakfast. Other than that there was no one. Manager slipped away into his office as if he was hiding. There is just no love in that hotel.

And for those reasons i rank it a 3 out of 5. Only because the hotel is still brand new with great decor, but is only reason. If you are paying over a $110 to $140- certainly you expect some world class service, a smile here and there perhaps?

I read reviews at Hampton, and almost booked them instead but chose Holiday Inn because it is so close to the beach park. I almost regret not choosing the Hampton, at least i would have had nice, friendly service.

This trip experience got off to a rocky start after cancelling our orig. near-by hotel reserv. because of a thousand reasons and booking in at Holiday Inn on a last moments notice. We stayed 4 days on the second floor. Upon walking through the doorway , we were greeted with smiling faces and top notch hospitality!!! The room, the breakfast, the pool, the sanitation, the beds, the decor and all the services were beyond our expectations! I have stayed @ many HI Exp. and this has been the nicest to date. But, it is not the building that sets this hotel apart from its' competitors. It is the people and their outstanding hospitality. They just can't be beat. We will be back... Thank you for your smiling faces... Ann Knighton, TN

We stayed here for 3 nights in July and If you ask for a room on 3rd floor odd size you can see the water from your room. We could sit out on the bench in front and see the water and enjoy the breeze from the water. It was hot here when we were here, but it is hot everywhere in Texas. Alot of the hotels were full, so we were glad HI had a vacancy.

Room Tip: Odd side room on 3rd floor

The hotel was new and the painting and decor were very nice and in line with the beach area we were in. We had a queen suite and liked the spacious set up of the room. We had requested a bay view but it seems to be first come first served and we were not first. The breakfast area was small, but well kept, and I can't say enough about the lady who ran the breakfast buffet. It was crowded and she kept the food coming and a smile on her face each morning. The floors needed vacuuming when we arrived in our room, but they did a better job of cleaning it the next day. The location is very close to Rockport beach, but you do have to drive there, it is not walkable. Overall, we were happy with our stay and our children had a great time.

Our family of five were at Rockport during the Fourth of July celebration. We stayed from 7/4-7/6/11.The hotel was very near to Rckport Beack Park which we enjoyed tremendously. It was also near to where fireworks were displayed.
Cons of the hotel:
The water pressure on the foruth floor where our room located, is extremely low.We could hardly get a good decent bath. The water literally trickles!!!!!
The suite room was located just outside the elevator and the ice machine, which means noise instead of quietness.Suite rooms in most other hotels were usually in the corner of the floor but not this one.
The elevator is extremely slow and noisy when the door is kept open for a longer time. This happens in the morning when eveyone tries to get to the breakfst room which is also very small for crowds.
The curtains do not close properly which allow light from the lampost directly outside the window on the fourth floor to penetrate to the room which means no sleep.

Newly opened so there are no negatives. New Holiday Inn Express properties are a cut above their competitors, & this hotel is no exception. Ask for an odd-numbered room on the 3rd floor & you will get a direct water view.
