Presidio, Texas is not exactly on the way to much of anywhere. On our first trip, which was basically a sight seeing loop from Marfa to Presidio, across to Terlingua and back up to Alpine we packed a lunch thinking we would not find a good place to eat. What a fantastic surprise! El Patio is another one of those out of the way places that truly has excellent food. The menu is obviously Mexican food (they are about twenty feet from Mexico). Prices are good, food is great, selection is good, portion size is large, service is great and the place is pretty much spotless. If you hit it on "buffet day", which I think is Friday, you are in for a real treat, but get there early before they run out of the chili rellenos.

During our recent two day stay in Mid-Mar 06, we stayed at Riata Inn, see my review with pics, and we ate each meal except when we were in Ojinaga here at El Patio. All of the locals highly recommend this restaurant. You will not find any fast food chains in Presidio except for a lone Subway, and each morning at breakfast we would eat at El Patio for less than $7.00. That's right 7 American greenbacks, and what that included was a huge Omlette, hashbrowns, three good size pancakes, and sausage. With this size portion, my wife and I would split the meal and left stuffed. During the evenings I could feed my family of 4, two teens included for about $35.00. You can get more than authentic mexican too to include steaks, pork chops, chicken, burgers and shrimp, but we stayed with the mexican. Everything tasted great too.

We have been dining at El Patio in "downtown" Presidio for over ten years. The food is always great with ample portions. The Burritos are excellent as are the variety of Mexican platters. It is without a doubt "the place" to dine in Presidio and its about an hour and fifteen minute drive to Lajitas.
