“Great value at a beautiful location.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2011

With a gorgeous view of Lake Texoma, Tanglewood Resort is a country lakeside retreat with the amenities of a fine hotel. We stayed in a Tower Suite with panoramic views of the lake. The suite was spacious and beautifully furnished. Food at the resort restaurants was very good, and the servers were friendly and professional. The front desk helped arrange a boat rental, which gave us four refreshing hours on the water despite the Texas heat. The couples massage at the spa was relaxing and a great value. This is a wonderful destination for folks from Dallas/Fort Worth because it's only a 90-minute drive, but you feel like you're far away from home!

Room Tip: Book a Tower Suite for the best views!

We visited or a function in the area and Tanglewood was recommended as the place to stay. We only needed to say one night, but it was the weekend and we decided to stay for two nights. Tanglewood is located in a very, very rural area and is not close to anything. There is very little in the area to do and he closest small town is several miles away..

There are only a couple of places to eat on-site and there is no food available after 10:00 pm anywhere There are not even snack machines, but the front desk staff will let you into the gift shop after hours if you go down and ask, but there is very little there. If you want food after 10:00pm, be prepared to drive a ways or bring your own. Could not even get a cup of coffee. Fortunately, they do serve liquor late.

The facility seems to have maintenance issues. The bathroom door in our room would not close and the inside security bolt would not latch. A couple of the room lamps did not work. A couple of other visitors mentioned similar issues.

On their web site, the three pools look large and uncrowded. The three pools even together are very, very small and were very, very crowded. In addition, there are also time share and full residences on-site which also have access to the facilities. There were lots of families and children. There is access to a golf course close.and there is a small work-out room. There was a spa, but from their in-room literature, it only seemed to be available only part-time.

In general, this place is in the middle of nowhere in an area where there is very little to do. Tanglewood provides few "resort" amenities are and after 10:00 pm forget about getting food. Be prepared to drive for miles for most anything. Probably want to have a very well planned agenda if you want activities in the area and be prepared to drive. Bring your GPS, you will need it.

I was not impressed at all with Tangleweed, except for the staff which were always nice and helpful. They just did not have a lot to work with.

I wanted to surprise my husband for a weekend getaway for his birthday and the resort looked beautiful online. We were greeted by less than friendly staff and there was no air-conditioning in the halls of the hotel. Stayed in the oversized lake front view room: room was more than poorly kept. No light bulbs in lamps, no decor on walls, old unkept carpet. Ate at Barnicle: food was decent, service was horrific!!!! Had a large group come in for a conference and they obviously were ill prepared. We had to get our own menus and after asking twice, we were able to get someone to bring our drinks. Young kids providing service with an attitude. Not only would I NOT recommend this resort- I WILL NEVER RETURN!!! Terrible choice for a surprise bday getaway :(

Just stayed in a villa at tanglewood. The service was great, but the rooms and hotel are very tired Parts of the hotel look like they have the same furniture and decor from the 1970's. Only ate at Barnacles and the breakfast buffet, and both were good. Highly recommend Napoli's on 289 for dinner.

We just got back from a staycation at Tanglewood and had a great time. This time we played golf and went on the lake. The golf course was in very good shape considering the hot summer. The greens were very good, I think two showed some stress from the weather, but the others all were fine and the the tees and fairways were excellent. The lake was the best part though - we did a sunset cruise one night with Fastrac boats - they are located at the marina just down a hill from the resort - it was a huge boat, we sat outside and enjoyed the fresh air, but you could go inside if you needed AC. We brought our own bottle of wine and had a great time. We also rented a pontoon boat from Island View which is about a 15 minute drive from the resort. Very accommodating people there who told us the best places to go on the lake and how to drive. We only ate at Barnacle's this time, it overlooks the pools so we so we just ate after swimming. On our last night we went to the Tower Lounge for a drink, there was a musician playing which was nice.
We stayed in the villas this time, a queen villa which had a microwave and mini-fridge and a small patio good enough for coffee in the morning. The price was more than our stay in February, but it is summer time so we expected that.

Reviewed the resort on their web site. Pictures looked absolutely beautiful and hotel appeared to be new or newly remodeled so I had high expectations on my arrival. Lobby was nice, but the king "Lakeview Room" was very disappointing. Room was rather old and tired looking. Carpet has long since seen its better days and needs to be replaced. Bathroom was big and spacious and plenty of room to move about. The door to the bathroom, when opened, blocked the door to the room and wouldn't stay closed.
The TV has been replaced with a very small, flat screen TV. For the size of the room, the TV was extremely too small.
The resort is nice and there are 3 cascading pools which were nice. The bar/restaurant off the side of the pool was nice and had quick food and drinks. The vacation rental part of the resort seemed to be much nicer than the main hotel which I believe was built in 2000.
Overall, the hotel needs renovation. It's nice, but not even close to the pictures on the web site. It was clean and spacious, but for the price, it was a little high.

The resort is decent, but the golf course is complete garbage and is all dried up. The pools are quite tiny, and the game room is trashed. These things don't mind me too much but there is absolutely nothing in the area to do, you will get bored in a day or too. You can go fishing in the morning if you have a boat, but it will get past 100 degrees by 9 am. You can rent a boat for a lot of money but the rental shop doesn't open until 10. You can rent a jet ski for $85 an hour if you have a driver's license. But other than the lake, there is nothing to do unless you drive to Dallas.
