Once you get to the top there is great views all around! If you are afraid of heights and have problems climbing small steps, don't visit here. My daughter, who doesn't like heights, was shaking pretty good by the time we reached the top, but the views were fantastic. Also very reasonably priced!

This was a lot of Fun. Something different to see a light house in the middle of town. Enjoyed getting to the top and looking at the view. Kids and adults alike will enjoy.

75 steps up and back down. But worth it! Once at the top you can see all over South Padre and the famous bridge to South Padre. Stop by and check it out.

The spiral staircase is not such a fun experience, but the view at the top is amazing. At the top there is a very narrow walk way and it is impossible to pass by another person, there simply isnt room. In fact, its a single file wak up the stairs as well. I dont recommend taking small children or anyone who is not in good physical shape. The stairs are steep and dont have good hand rails. Im not sure why there is a fee for this attraction, the website says it is free, but the fee is only $3 and the view is worth it. I would love to be there at sunrise, but it doesnt open until 9 in the winter and 10 in the summer.

Don't expect to get a whole lot of information when you enter the lighthouse about the history of the lighthouse itself. The person who takes your money ($3 adults/$2 senior citizens) doesn't have any knowledge other than it is 74 steps to the top. Here's the scoop: The lighthouse was built in 1852 and was decommissioned in 1905. There is no fresnel lens at the top, just a light bulb, so that is disappointing. Hours seem to be at a whim, because the ticket guy had to leave and lock the lighthouse when we were leaving (not at closing time) to "run an errand for his boss". Pretty unprofessional all the way around.

The view from the top is really great, but the final few wooden stairs going up to the viewing area are not at a decent angle, so everyone should take care.....especially coming down.

No need to devote much time to this attraction - we were in and out within fifteen minutes, including the time to admire the view from the top.
