“Good price for what you need.”
Reviewed July 4, 2014 via mobile

We wanted to spend less money on a place to stay and more money on things to do on this vacation. Was just what we needed. We didn't stay at the resort much since we were at the beach all day long or in town doing fishing or dolphin watching. Wasn't anything wonderful but a place to stay while we played.

My husband and I went here for our first wedding anniversary this year. It was nice! For the price, it was great. It was exactly what we were looking for.
The only complaints we had... were super minor.

1. No outside lights worked, we had to pull light bulbs from lamps to put outside, not a big deal, but slightly annoying. I'm sure they would have sent someone to fix it but, the office was already closed and it wasn't an emergency so... we did what we could.
The next one is mostly mine... the shower had a sliding glass door.. and there was mold on the caulking along where you put your fingers to pull it open or closed.

The office staff was extremely nice and helpful. The maintenance guy that came to fix an un - programmed remote, was very nice and fast. Everything was clean when we got to the room and we didn't see any bugs at all. The furniture was super outdated.. but we weren't really in the room much. It was a pretty lengthy hike to the ocean... but there are really pretty flowers along the way....

We were there on a weekend, and it was quiet. It seemed like older couples and people meeting up with friends were mostly there. The hotel next to this one had a live band and junk on a friday night. Not good for getting some rest after a long long day!

We stayed in unit 211. It has been updated quite a bit since the photos shown on the site--new paint, new outdoor furniture, and 2 blenders! It was a wonderfully quiet complex. We opted to buy a beach pass rather than lug our gear over the 5 minute walk the complex touted. HOWEVER, housekeeping is lax. I had to unload and fold our clean towels (housekeeping even left us a note telling us towels were in dryer), unload the dishwasher on arrival, and there was long black hair all over the bathroom--in the tub too, which led me to believe it hadn't been cleaned thoroughly. I don't mind starting a load of laundry and doing dishes when I leave, as this is pretty much standard everywhere. Definitely did not like starting my stay doing housework! Doubt it will keep me from going back, though, price was reasonable and we booked at the last minute.

Thank you for your nice review of the El Cortez property. We are happy that you enjoyed our nice quiet community, but the unit you rented is not in our Rental Program and does not get any housekeeping services from us. The unit is rented privately online by the Owner and she provides her own housekeeping service. I will certainly pass on your review to that Owner.
Again, we are glad that you liked our property and hope that you do come back and visit us again. .

El Cortez had just about the last condo in Port A by the time the family could coordinate vacations; our usual complex was booked. The rates are reasonable and the overall complex is nice. There is a walkway/boardwalk to the beach, but it a pretty good hike if you are hauling more than a towel, so we drove our stuff to access road 1 and came back up the beach and set up close to the end of the boardwalk so we could walk back to the unit if necessary.
There are 2 pools that can be used by all guests and bbq grills/picnic tables around.
We were in 104 and I agree with another reviewer that it could use some attention. The furniture was comfortable, the a/c works GREAT, and it was nice to have the washer/dryer combo. The beds were mostly ok but our daughter is not used to such a firm mattress. One of the drawer fronts in the larger bathroom came off at the 1st tug. The sink in the smaller bathroom drains VERY slow. And the smaller bathroom is VERY small and tight. The kitchen was stocked with every thing but a blender, so our daughter couldn't make her usual smoothies. The kitchen is also very tight-there is not room for 2 to work at a time. And the glass front door swings shut quickly and will catch the back of your heel if you are not careful. There are several ponds on the property and the frogs can get loud at night.
It's a nice complex but if we stayed there again I would get a different unit. The owner just needs to have some basic maintenance done.
You do get some noise from the upstairs unit-you know when they move a cahir.

Room Tip: Look at the individual unit virtual tours on the website.

Came down for fathers day weekend very nice place. Room 233 was very clean has a washer and dryer full kitchen, including blender and crock pot. Pool is small but very clean with plenty of chairs. Nice balcony for the smokers in the family. Not to far of a drive to town but far enough away to be peacefull. Only bad part is no beach view but thats ok cause we drive down access road 1 to take our cooler and fishing poles. Great value for the price, we will stay here again.

We stayed in unit 104. My husband and I had our daughter and grandchildren with us. The decor was so dated, and there wasn't any beach motif. I felt like I was in some midwestern home where elderly people live. The shower stall in the small bathroom was so tiny it was uncomfortable to move around in. The twin beds were very hard. The throw rugs had lost the latex backing off them and were sliding around, becoming tripping hazards. Some of the "fresh" towels looked dirty and had stains on them. The maid came by in the morning to leave clean towels but did not take the trash with her and the unit did not have extra trash bags. When we arrived a salamander was in the room and later a spider came down from the ceiling and landed on one of the beds. The pool in the larger section of the complex needs refinishing because my little grandson cut the bottom of his toes badly on the floor of the pool. There's not enough handicapped parking and I couldn't find ramps for getting onto the sidewalks. I'm not in a wheelchair but my knees are bad and it's hard to step up onto the curb. On the positive side, the A/C worked well and the sofas were comfortable; although, the large sofa had an odd smell to it. The complex itself is nice, but try another unit. I'm at a loss to understand why the owners don't upgrade their units and make them pleasant and comfortable. We pay so much money to stay here and then end up disappointed.

Room Tip: Be sure to look at the virtual tours of the units on the complex website.

Thank you for your review of El Cortez Villas unit #104. We always strive to make our guest's visit a positive and enjoyable experience. We are sorry that your second stay here was not as pleasant as your first, but we hope that you do return. We will certainly pass along your comments to the Owner and our staff. While there are some things we can not change such as the size of the guest bathroom, we can certainly improve any housekeeping issues brought to our attention. Again thank you for your helpful suggestions and we look forward to your next visit.
