Good German food, attentive waiter, nice quiet atmosphere. Impressive selection on import beer. Highly recommend the red cabbage, has perfect sweetness/tartness. Pork Schnitzel was good, served with perfectly steamed, julienned vegetables, and German pan potatoes.

We are locals and eat dinner at Marcel's several times a month. Typically there are two to three daily specials listed on the chalkboard. Soup of the day never fails...I even order it in the Summer. The fish specials are always superb and prepared to highlight the clean, fresh taste. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. They are also open on Mondays and Tuesdays...days when most restaurants in Port A are closed. If not interested in fish, the steaks are some of the best in town. The chef is a genius with sauces.

I had driven past Marcel's for years and never even noticed it or payed any attention to it. I finally decided to give it a try a few months back when everything else in town was ultra crowded. I have been back once after the first visit. I was thoroughly impressed both times. Thought the restaurant does not look like much from the outside, it is very nice and cozy on the inside, with windows looking out onto a patio.

The service is excellent, with pleasant, informed waitstaff (something that is a rarity in Port Aransas). The place is generally busy on high-season weekends, but never so much that you have to wait for tables. The clientele is a bit more upscale than most Port Aransas eateries.

The menu consists of an eclectic mix of german, french and seafood dishes. The daily specials, which usually include fresh seafood, are always excellent.

What I like most about Marcel's is that it is family owned and run. Marcel himself is in the kitchen every evening, and his family members work as wait staff. As a result, you have a restaurant that takes deep pride in its food and service.

We went about 8PM and the restaurant was mostly empty and we decided to settle here as other restaurants had 45+ min waits. We had 11 in our party and they could not sit us at the same table or move two tables together, but instead seated us at two tables with an empty table in between. A couple in our party ordered water and asked for lemon, we never received those after asking at least two other times.

Menu/Food: The kids shrimp comes with 2 shrimp, so if your kid is at all hungry, you better order them off the adult menu. One in our party is allergic to squash so asked to have double the German potatoes, well the double added about 3-4 additional potato squares, definitely not double. The people in our party who ordered the German food said theirs was good, so maybe only go here if you want German food, but don't bother with the shrimp or fish. The fish platter had two small pieces of fish on it that you could easily have gone to many other places on the island and paid half the price for the same thing and had an atmosphere or outside view.

Atmosphere: The restaurant looks like it is stuck in the late 60's to 70's when the building was probably built as the fireplace has fake mum's with red and white Christmas lights to look like they are burning, and the popcorn ceiling is peeling, with some very outdated paintings on the wall.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your dining experience with us (and we really mean that)

Port Aransas is a very busy tourist destination in the summer, and their tends to be a lot of folks on waiting lists - particularly if you have a large group. That really doesn't have to be a problem with us because we are one of the few restaurants in Port A that accepts (and strongly encourages) reservations. That's right. You can call us, in advance, (even on the same afternoon usually) and reserve almost any size table - arrive, and walk right on in with your table and server waiting. ** well, not on Thanksgiving or Valentines day - you'd need to call well in advance for those days.

You are easy to remember because we seldom have to seat a party of less than 13 at two tables. We get large groups all the time - especially in the summer. Those large groups usually make a reservation in advance, so they are all set when they walk in the door.

You called us at the tail end of our dinner rush, on a busy night, asking us if we can seat a party of 11. I took this call, and I told the caller that we could accommodate you; however, we would not be able to do it at one table (why - because the two areas we have for large groups already had large groups at them). If two tables was a problem, I do not understand why you still decided to come.

Between the time of the call and you arriving we scrambled to make room for you and your party. The dinner rush was winding down and we frantically cleared two tables (the two 4 top tables in front of our "Magic Fireplace" and PUT THEM TOGETHER to seat 8 of you). A 4 top table within a few arms lengths from those tables was set for the remainder of the guests. There was no table in between - only open space. I sat your group myself and suggested that, while the tables (we put together for you) would seat 8 - you might want one of the seats to to ahead and sit with the other table because, since the tables don't normally go together - there was a bit of a bump in the middle of one of the places where the table edges didn't quite match).

We have a children's menu. We do this to accommodate our little guests who have small appetites. The portions on this menu are scaled down for small children. While the children's shrimp plate has two shrimp - these shrimp are U15, so quite large - they are butterflied, battered, and deep fried. This meal comes with bread/butter beforehand, the shrimp, french fries, hot vegetable, and complimentary ice cream for dessert.

Our building is surely older and well worn, but it has character. We aren't corporate owned - we do our own repairs (when we can find the extra time - which, honestly, isn't very often) and our own cleaning (which is every day and on the days we are closed).

We are old fashioned and eclectic, and we don't and never will apologize for that. We play big band tunes on the music system. We have a "magic fireplace, silk flowers, table cloths on the tables and linen napkins (like back when most restaurants offered this amenity), We have pictures of our ancestors on the walls and a photo gallery of Texas landscapes in the men's room. We aren't "new" and we aren't high-toned. The vast majority of our customers appreciate this. When they want something slick and fancy (and "new") they drive to Corpus Christi and go to Republic of Texas or Katz 21.

All the best to you, and we mean that too.

I've been here numerous times and always come back for more. Tonight jumbo sea scallops with ginger sauce, gazpacho, creme Brule.....hello??? The rational German favorites can always be found here as well. The also sell bread by the loaf and if you live in Port A your always looking for good bread. This place is not the typical tourist trendy spot, instead it is a wonderful little gem a little of the beaten path.
