My husband and I enjoyed our dinner at Marcel's with our two boys, 10 & 12 recently. I hadn't been there in several years but would recommend based on the quality of our food and the friendliness of our waitress. Service was prompt and everyone enjoyed their meals.

For that special evening, this is the place to go. White linen tablecloths, attentive waiters and great food. The steaks here are so tender and good. But the German food is really special. He always has seafood selections too so you can go with almost anything. This is my special "go to" place or just to go for some German comfort food like the red cabbage or spaetzle.

We have been going to Port A for years and never tried this place, but because of the comments on TA, we decided to give it a try. We will go back! Most of the entrees are German, but they do have some American dishes. Our food was perfectly prepared and the home made bread made the meal special. We didn't have room for dessert, but we did take home a home made cheesecake. Can't wait to go back and try something different.

We showed up at 6pm on a February Friday night to find a sign on the door saying all tables were booked for the evening. Wow, Port A is so casual that formal wear is where you put on your good flip flops instead of your beach ones so we were amazed to find reservations were needed here. Lesson learned.
If you haven't been here before be warned the signage on Alister is inadequate and shared with the bar next door. Its on the east, gulf, side of Alister, which is your right as you drive north on Alister.

We would certainly like to clarify things here……………

Reservations are NOT required at Marcel’s, but we do take them (and encourage people to make them especially on weekends and holidays).

The night in question was Friday, February 14th. VALENTINE’S DAY……falling on a Friday. Busiest night of the year for us – doubly so this year.

You bet we were booked solid with reservations. We also had a standby list for certain time slots days before .

The sign in question said we were fully booked, but it also said customers were welcome to put their names on a waiting list inside. As it happens, we were able to seat several walk-in customers who chose to wait.

We certainly understand the customer’s disappointment, and we hope he will come back another time and dine with us in the future.

This was our second visit to Marcel's, one of the few Port Aransas eateries open Monday nights. Marcel and Dorie Althauser have crafted a true gem, with good food and date-night ambience.

As was the case during our first visit last year, Sierra Patton was our waitress. Personable and attentive, she once again made us feel at home.

In fact, everyone on the staff is friendly and accommodating. A waiter catching a breath of fresh air out front held the door for us, and Dorie herself greeted us inside. We began with homemade bread, German draft beer, and crab-stuffed jalapenos. Five large jalapenos came with the order; we could've easily devoured twice as many. They were outstanding!

The German entrées were solid performers, as good as any found in restaurants of other German enclaves dotting Texas.

My wife is a bread pudding fanatic, the three of us split an order for dessert. A bit sweet for my own taste, but certain to please the most dessert aficionados.

Put Marcel's at the top of your Port Aransas list.
