We have been here several times. Foods is fresh and the presentation is nice. You can tell the owner is a professional in all phases of preparation and combinations. The help needs a little help, but it's a small town so what can you expect. We always like to go back.

We have dined at Marcel's many times over several decades. Same owner-chef. Invariably excellent, delicious and a good value. The owner-chef is always there, often coming to greet his guests. Fresh fish is his specialty. In addition there are excellent German dishes on the menu. Good wines and very good beer (German) are available, no liquor. The physical plant is very "island" and could use a re-vamping, but why do it if enthusiastic diners continue to come.

We discovered a wonderful restaurant in Port Aransas. They have very authentic German food as well as other selections. The shrimp were some of the best I have ever had. Our waiter was very attentive, and the décor was like being in a quaint restaurant in Germany. We were quite surprised that Port Aransas had an especially nice restaurant like Marcel's. Our daughter-in-law was aware that the type of German food was like the food from the area where she is from, and was able to have a conversation in German with the owners. We felt like we had spent a couple of hours in Europe, almost forgetting we were in Port Aransas. What a wonderful dining experience!

My Wife and I are fequent visitors to Port A and finally decided to try Marcel's after hearing good things about it. Our first impression was good as the inside of the resturant is a lot differrent from the outside, We were warnly greated and our waiter was very good but that's where it stopped for us. We ordered the Shrimp bisque and it was nothing more than a fish based broth with absolutely no shimp in it, we ordered the fish specials which was Grouper and grilled Ahi Tuna. The Grouper wasn't bad but the pasta and veggies lacked flavor. The Tuna was overwhelmed with the roasted red pepper sauce and lacked flavor as did the grilled srimp. it was served with and the plain white rice was very blah tasting. The wine however was good. I believe that the specialities of the house is Greman food and maybe that would have been a better choice to eat but in the end it was over priced (at least for the specials) and was one of our worst dining expierances.

Thank you for your input Dean W. Based on the meal you commented on, your visit was on Memorial Day Weekend. We hope you enjoyed your holiday in Port Aransas. It's regrettable that you found your side dishes under-seasoned. We did discuss your suggestions; we take every customer's input seriously whether it is verbal or in a public review such as this.

It is our belief that rice and pasta should be accompaniments to and highlight the entree, and salt/pepper/butter is usually the only seasoning we use. In this way they are appropriate for a wide variety of entrees. We've also found that it is better to be restrained with seasonings so that they merely highlight the natural flavor of the food (in this case Grouper and Ahi). We found the Sweet Pepper Sauce to be very mild; however, like the pasta and rice - one person may find something over seasoned while another finds it under seasoned. The base ingredients of the our Shrimp Bisque is shrimp stock (never 'fish broth') and heavy cream. You are correct - there is no "shrimp meat" in this creamy soup (though occasionally Marcel may garnish with a few small salad shrimp).

Regarding value/price. We purchase fresh fish - as local as possible. Our standards are very high in this regard. As with everything in life - you get what you pay for. We pay more for fresh, quality, and highly perishable fish, and our entrees are priced accordingly. Tablecloths and napkins, fresh bread (served with real butter), and other such amenities are also overhead that go into our menu pricing in general and add to the patrons experience.

I hope this addresses some of your concerns. In the end, we are truly sorry that you didn't enjoy your over-all experience at our restaurant. We would love for you to join us again - perhaps for some Jagerschnitzel and a German beer?

Fish specials are best bets... many unusual items on eclectic menu. German influence on adult beverage options and certain menu items, but other stuff more mainstream beach town fare. Pleasant atmosphere and attentive service.
